Hoosier Folklore
The ''Journal of Folklore Research: An International Journal of Folklore and Ethnomusicology'' is a triannual peer-reviewed academic journal covering research on folklore, folklife, and ethnomusicology. It was established in 1942 and is published by Indiana University Press. History The journal was established in 1942 as the ''Hoosier Folklore Bulletin'' and continued in 1945 as ''Hoosier Folklore''. It was renamed in 1951 as ''Midwest Folklore'' () and continued from 1964 to 1983 under Richard Dorson as the ''Journal of the Folklore Institute'' (), obtaining its current name in 1984. Folklore
Folklore is the body of expressive culture shared by a particular group of people, culture or subculture. This includes oral traditions such as Narrative, tales, myths, legends, proverbs, Poetry, poems, jokes, and other oral traditions. This also includes material culture, such as traditional building styles common to the group. Folklore also encompasses customary lore, taking actions for folk beliefs, including folk religion, and the forms and rituals of celebrations such as Christmas, weddings, folk dances, and Rite of passage, initiation rites. Each one of these, either singly or in combination, is considered a Cultural artifact, folklore artifact or Cultural expressions, traditional cultural expression. Just as essential as the form, folklore also encompasses the transmission of these artifacts from one region to another or from one generation to the next. Michael Foster (folklorist)
Michael Dylan Foster is a professor of Folklore and the current Chair of the East Asian Languages and Cultures department at the University of California, Davis. His work has focused on Japanese literature and culture. He has published several short stories, articles, and novels. Career Foster joined the University of California Davis in 2016. Foster previously worked in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University, and in the Department of Comparative Literature & Foreign Languages at the University of California Riverside. Much of his work on Japanese folklore has centered on tales of the supernatural, which was the subject of his first book, ''Pandemonium and Parade: Japanese Monsters and the Culture of Yôkai''. ''Current Contents'' is a rapid alerting service database from Clarivate, formerly the Institute for Scientific Information and Thomson Reuters. It is published online and in several different printed subject sections. History ''Current Contents'' was first published in paper format, in a single edition devoted only to biology and medicine. Other subject editions were added later. Initially, it consisted simply of a reproduction of the title pages from several hundred major peer-reviewed scientific journals, and was published weekly, with the issues containing title pages from journal issues only a few weeks previously, a shorter time lag than any service then available.
