Home Command (British Army)
Home Command, previously Personnel and Support Command, is a personnel support and UK operations command of the British Army. The post of Commander PSC previously replaced that of Adjutant-General to the Forces, and then had British Isles responsibilities, including Support Command (British Army) and civil contingencies tasks, added to it. Responsibilities In 2015 the post of the Army's Adjutant-General to the Forces was eliminated, and re-designated Commander Personnel and Support Command. In April 2016, Personnel and Support Command was renamed as Home Command. Headquarters Home Command is located at Montgomery House in Aldershot and provides the Army’s personnel and institutional support. It assumed responsibility for the delivery elements of the Adjutant General’s portfolio: recruiting; individual training (officers and soldiers); career management and postings. British Army
The British Army is the principal Army, land warfare force of the United Kingdom. the British Army comprises 73,847 regular full-time personnel, 4,127 Brigade of Gurkhas, Gurkhas, 25,742 Army Reserve (United Kingdom), volunteer reserve personnel and 4,697 "other personnel", for a total of 108,413. Lieutenant General
Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general (or colonel general) and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. In the United States, a lieutenant general has a three star insignia and commands an army corps, typically made up of three army divisions, and consisting of around 60,000 to 70,000 soldiers. Ian Cave
Lieutenant General Sir Ian John Cave, , is a British Army officer who was Commander Home Command from June 2021 to September 2023. He now serves as the UK Military Representative to NATO and to the European Union. Military career Cave was commissioned into the Queen's Lancashire Regiment on 4 September 1987. He was subsequently transferred to the Royal Welch Fusiliers on 9 February 1988. Cave served as commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, the Mercian Regiment and in that capacity saw action in the Iraq War in 2008, for which he was awarded a Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service. Tyrone Urch
Lieutenant General Sir Tyrone Richard Urch, (born 12 June 1965) is a former senior British Army officer who served as General Officer Commanding, Force Troops Command and later Commander, Home Command. Early life and education Urch was born on 12 June 1965. He was educated at Lord Weymouth's School, Warminster, and Welbeck College. He studied at Cranfield University (BEng) and King's College London (MA). Military career Urch was commissioned into the Royal Engineers on 4 June 1984. In 2001, as officer commanding 20 Field Squadron, he led the construction of two schools, a new hangar at Price Barracks and a jungle research station in Belize. Lieutenant General James Ian Bashall, (born 3 April 1962) is a former British Army officer who served as Commander Home Command from 2015 to 2018. From 2019 to 2023 he was the National President of the Royal British Legion. David Eastman (British Army Officer)
Lieutenant General David James Eastman, (born March 1970) is a senior British Army officer. He served as General Officer Commanding Regional Command from February 2020 to July 2022, and in June 2024 was appointed as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff. Personal life Eastman was born in March 1970. He is married to Corina and they have four children. Military career Eastman was commissioned into the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 1989. After serving as Deputy Chief of Staff, 16 Air Assault Brigade from 2005 to 2006, he became commanding officer of 2 Close Support Battalion REME. Eastman was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in December 2006, for services during the first UK deployment to Helmand Province. NHS Nightingale Hospital
The NHS Nightingale Hospital London was the first of the NHS Nightingale Hospitals, temporary hospitals set up by National Health Service (England), NHS England for the COVID-19 pandemic in England, COVID-19 pandemic. It was housed in the ExCeL London convention centre in East London. The hospital was rapidly planned and constructed, being formally opened on 3 April and receiving its first patients on 7 April 2020. It served 54 patients during the first wave of the pandemic, and was used to serve non-COVID patients and provide vaccinations during the second wave. It was closed in April 2021. Operation Temperer
Operation Temperer is a British government plan to deploy troops to support and free up police officers in key locations following a major terrorist attack or major public disorder. It was put into effect for the first time on 22 May 2017 following the bombing of an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena, and for a second time following the Parsons Green bombing. HQ Standing Joint Commander (UK) is militarily responsible for directing the deployment, if ordered.
