Hiranya Peiris
Hiranya Vajramani Peiris is a British astrophysicist at the University of Cambridge, where she holds the Professorship of Astrophysics (1909). She is best known for her work on the cosmic microwave background radiation, and interdisciplinary links between cosmology and high-energy physics. She was one of 27 scientists who received the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics in 2018 for their "detailed maps of the early universe". Education and early life Peiris was born in Sri Lanka. She completed the Natural Sciences Tripos at University of Cambridge in 1998, as an undergraduate student of Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, New Hall, Cambridge. Hiranya Deepthi Dulanjani Menike Herath Ranaweera commonly known as Hiranya Herath ( Sinhala: හිරණ්යා හේරත්, Tamil: ஹிரன்யா ஹேரத்; born 18 July 1986) is an Attorney at Law and a politician in the district of Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. Hiranyakeshi River
The Hiranyakeshi river is a left-bank tributary of the Ghataprabha River originating in the Western Ghats in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. Etymology The river derives its name from the Sri Hiranyakeshi temple. The temple is built over caves from where the river originates as a fresh mountain stream. Hiranyakeshi is a sanskrit word which means "one with golden hair" and refers to the Hindu goddess Parvati. Course The river begins in the caves in Hiranyakeshwar temple near the hill station of Amboli hill station, Amboli. It flows northwest towards Jakatwadi, a small village next to Amboli, where it turns right almost at a right angle and begins to flow east. Hiranyagarbha
Hiranyagarbha (, , poetically translated as 'universal womb') is the source of the creation of the universe or the manifested cosmos in Vedic philosophy. It finds mention in one hymn of the Rigveda ( RV 10.121), known as the Hiraṇyagarbha Sūkta, suggesting a single creator deity (verse 8: ', Griffith: "He is the God of gods, and none beside him."), identified in the hymn as Prajāpati. The concept of the "golden womb" is first mentioned in the Vishvakarma Sūkta (RV 10.82.5,6) which picturized the "primeval womb" as being rested set upon the navel of Vishvakarman. This imagery was later transferred to Vishnu and Surya. The Upanishad calls it the Soul of the Universe or Brahman, and elaborates that Hiraṇyagarbha floated around in emptiness and the darkness of the non-existence for about a year, and then broke into two halves which formed the '' Svarga'' and the '' Pṛthvi''. Hiranyagarbha (donation)
Hiranyagarbha (IAST: hiraṇya-garbha) is an ancient Indian ritual ceremony involving the donation of a golden vessel. It is mentioned as one of the " Sixteen great gifts" in the historical texts. Ritual The word hiranyagarbha literally means "golden womb": it signifies a golden pot (''kunda'') donated to a Brahmana, and also refers to the god Vishnu. The donor performs an archana (worship ritual), and utters a mantra praising the lord Hiranya garbha, that is, Vishnu. The performer then enters into the "golden womb", as the priests perform the rites usually performed for a pregnant woman: garbhadhana, pumsavana, and simantonnayana. Next, the donor is taken out of the "golden womb", and the priests perform jatakarma and other rites usually performed for a newborn. The donor utters a mantra announcing a "rebirth" from the divine womb, and is called "born of the hiranya garbha". Hiranyakashipu
Hiranyakashipu (, ), also known as Hiranyakashyap, was a daitya king of the asuras in the Puranas. In Hinduism, Hiranyakashipu's younger brother, Hiranyaksha, was slain by the Varaha (boar) avatar of Vishnu. Angered by this, Hiranyakashipu decided to gain a boon of invulnerability by performing tapas to propitiate Brahma. After his subjugation of the three worlds, he was slain by the Narasimha (man-lion) avatar of Vishnu. Etymology Hiranyakashipu literally translates to "person desiring wealth and material comforts" (''hiranya'' "gold" ''kashipu'' "soft bed"), and is often interpreted as depicting one who is fond of wealth and sensual comforts. Hiranyaksha (, ), also known as Hiranyanetra () was an asura king as per Hindu mythology. He is described to have submerged the earth and terrorised the three worlds. He was slain by the Varaha (wild boar) avatar of Vishnu, who rescued the earth goddess Bhumi and restored order to the earth. Legend Some of the Puranas present Hiranyaksha as the son of Diti and Kashyapa. Having performed austerities to propitiate Brahma, Hiranyaksha received the boon of invulnerability of meeting his death by neither any god, man, nor beast.
