Hefner (band)
Hefner were a British indie rock band formed in east London in 1995. They were active from about 1996 until 2002; since then they have played together only once, for a tribute to the DJ John Peel, who was a strong supporter of theirs. History Hefner's roots stretch back to 1992, when Darren Hayman and Antony Harding met at art school in Kent. The band started playing live in 1995 and, after several line up changes, became a solo project of Darren Hayman. In 1996 he recorded a tape for Sticky Records (named '' The Devotion Chamber'') on which all instruments were played by Hayman himself. His friend from art school, Antony Harding, assisted, providing backing vocals. The band's first release was in April 1997 when the 7-inch single "A Better Friend" was released by Boogle Wonderland. Richard Douglas Heffner (August 5, 1925 – December 17, 2013) was the creator and host of ''The Open Mind (talk show), The Open Mind,'' a public affairs television show first broadcast in 1956. He was a University Professor of Communications and Public Policy at Rutgers University and also taught an honors seminar at New York University. Career A protégé of Edward R. Murrow, Heffner helped establish what is now WNET (Channel 13) in New York City and was its first general manager, from 1961–63. From 1974–94 Heffner was chairman of the Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Ray Lorenzo Heffner (March 7, 1925 – November 28, 2012) was an American educator and president of Brown University. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and graduated from Yale College in 1948, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the Elizabethan Club, and Scroll and Key. Philip Hefner (December 10, 1932 – April 27, 2024) was an American theologian. He was professor emeritus of systematic theology at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Life and career His research career has focused on the interaction of religion and science, for which he is most well known. Hefner has held several dozen visiting teaching and lecturing appointments at seminaries, colleges, and universities in the United States, Europe, Africa, and Asia. He is an ordained minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and has taught in numerous Lutheran seminaries in America. Larry Douglas Hefner (born August 2, 1949) is a former American football linebacker who played four seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Green Bay Packers. He played college football for the Clemson Tigers and was selected by the Packers in the 14th round of the 1972 NFL draft. Early life Hefner was born on August 2, 1949, in Charlotte, North Carolina, and grew up there. Keith Hefner is the founder and executive director of Youth Communication, an influential nonprofit organization publishing magazines and books by and for youth.
