Hebden, North Yorkshire
Hebden ( ) is a village and civil parish in the county of North Yorkshire, England, and one of four villages in the ecclesiastical parish of Linton, North Yorkshire, Linton. It lies near Grimwith Reservoir and Grassington, in Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. In 2011 it had a population of 246. Hebden has a church, a hotel and public house, a tea room, a community hall, and is served by buses. Until 1983 it had a Primary school#United Kingdom, primary school. Hebden straddles a cross roads. The east–west B6265 road connects it with Grassington to the west, and from there south to the market town of Skipton, from Hebden. To the east, the road crosses a bridge over Hebden Gill, built in 1827, and thence over the Drainage divide, watershed to Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale, distant. Hebden Royd is a civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 9,092, rising to 9,558 at the 2011 census. It includes market town of Hebden Bridge and the villages of Mytholmroyd and Cragg Vale. The parish was an urban district before 1974, created in 1937 by the merger of Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd urban districts. History The Town Council has 18 seats over 6 wards - Birchcliffe, Cragg Vale, Caldene, Fairfield, West End and White Lee. As of May 2019, 15 are Labour-held and 3 are Lib Dem. Hebden Bridge Town Hall and adjoining fire station is a Grade II listed building, built in 1898. Hebden Bridge is a market town in the Calderdale district of West Yorkshire, England. It is in the Upper Calder Valley, west of Halifax and 14 miles (21 km) north-east of Rochdale, at the confluence of the River Calder and the Hebden Water. The town is the largest settlement in the civil parish of Hebden Royd. In 2015, the Calder ward, covering Hebden Bridge, Old Town, and part of Todmorden, had a population of 12,167. The town had a population of 4,500. History The original settlement was the hilltop village of Heptonstall. Hebden Bridge (''Heptenbryge'') started as a settlement where the Halifax to Burnley packhorse route dropped into the valley and crossed the River Hebden where the old bridge (from which it gets its name) stands. Hebden Bridge railway station serves the town of Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, England. The station is on the Calder Valley Line, operated by Northern since April 2016, from York and Leeds towards Manchester Victoria and Preston. The station is west of Halifax and west of Leeds. History The Manchester and Leeds Railway, authorised in 1836 for a line from Manchester to , was opened in stages; the second section, between Normanton and Hebden Bridge, opened on 5 October 1840. Trains arrived at Hebden Bridge from Normanton and passengers would then continue to by road. The section between Hebden Bridge and Summit Tunnel opened on 31 December 1840, allowing trains to reach ; after Summit Tunnel opened on 1 March 1841, trains continued to Littleborough and Manchester.
