Heather Frederiksen
Heather Frederiksen Order of the British Empire, MBE (born 30 December 1985) is a retired British Paralympic swimmer. She is former world record holder in the women's S8 100 m backstroke, 50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle, 200 m freestyle and 400 m freestyle events. , she still holds European records in the S8 200 m and 400 m freestyle. Frederiksen is a two time Paralympic Games, Paralympic champion in the 100m backstroke S8 (classification), S8 classification, and has won eight Paralympic medals in all. Early life and education Frederiksen was born in Leigh, Greater Manchester, Leigh, England. She attended the Lowton Church of England High School for secondary school. Leigh, Greater Manchester
Leigh is a town in Greater Manchester, England, on low-lying land northwest of Chat Moss. Medley swimming is a combination of four different swimming (sport), swimming strokes (Freestyle swimming, freestyle (usually front crawl), backstroke, breaststroke, Butterfly stroke, butterfly) into one race. This race is either swum by one swimmer as individual medley (IM) or by four swimmers as a medley relay. Individual medley Individual medley consists of a single swimmer swimming equal distances of the four strokes within one race. Stroke order Individual medley consists of four strokes. Breaststroke
Breaststroke is a human swimming, swimming style in which the swimmer is on their chest and the torso does not rotate. It is the most popular recreational style due to the swimmer's head being out of the water a large portion of the time, and that it can be swum comfortably at slow speeds. In most swimming classes, beginners learn either the breaststroke or the freestyle (front crawl) first. However, at the competitive level, swimming breaststroke at speed requires endurance and strength comparable to other strokes. Backstroke
Backstroke or back crawl is one of the four Swimming (sport), swimming styles used in competitive events regulated by FINA, and the only one of these styles swum on the back. This swimming style has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going. Lowton Church of England High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Lowton in the English county of Greater Manchester. S8, SB7, SM8 are para-swimming classifications used for categorizing swimmers based on their level of disability. This class includes a number of different disabilities including people with amputations and cerebral palsy. The classification is governed by the International Paralympic Committee, and competes at the Paralympic Games. Definition This classification is for Swimming (sport), swimming. In the classification title, S represents Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly strokes. SB means breaststroke. SM means individual medley. The number following indicates degree of disability, with one being the most severely physically impaired to ten having the least amount of physical disability.
