Health Select Committee
The Health and Social Care Select Committee (abbreviated to HSC, HSCC and HSCSC) is a Departmental Select Committee of the British House of Commons, the lower house of the United Kingdom Parliament. Its remit is to examine the policy, administration and expenditure of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and its associated agencies and public bodies. The Clerks of the Committee are Previn Desai and Joanna Dodd. Inquiries The Committee regularly initiates inquiries into government and the policies of DHSC's agencies and public bodies, such as NHS England. Steve Brine
Steve Brine (born 28 January 1974) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Winchester since 2010. A member of the Conservative Party, he worked as a BBC radio journalist and in public relations prior to his political career. Brine identifies as a one-nation conservative. In November 2022, he was elected chair of the Health and Social Care Select Committee. He served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Public Health and Primary Care at the Department of Health from June 2017 to March 2019, when Brine resigned to vote against the government's policy on Brexit. Brine had the Conservative whip removed on 3 September by Prime Minister Boris Johnson for supporting the Benn Act, an attempt to prevent a no-deal Brexit. Taiwo Owatemi (born 22 July 1992) is a British politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Coventry North West since 2019. A member of the Labour Party, she was Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities from September 2021 to September 2022. James George Morris (born 4 February 1967) is a British politician who served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Primary Care and Patient Safety from July to September 2022. He has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Halesowen and Rowley Regis in the West Midlands since 2010. He also served as Vice-Chamberlain of the Household from 2021 to 2022. Rachael Helen Maskell (born 5 July 1972) is a British politician serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for York Central since 2015. A member of the Labour and Co-operative parties, she was Shadow Environment Secretary from 2016 to 2017 and Shadow Employment Secretary in 2020.
