Havana Vaqueros
Vaqueros de la Habana (), commonly referred to simply as La Habana, were a baseball team in the Cuban National Series from the 1977-78 Cuban National Series, 1977–78 season through the 2010–11 Cuban National Series, 2010–11 season. Representing the former Havana Province (''Provincia de La Habana''), Vaqueros won their first ever National Series in 2008–09 Cuban National Series, 2008–09, and reached the National Series final against Santiago de Cuba (baseball team), Santiago de Cuba in 2004-05 Cuban National Series, 2004–05. La Habana had three pitchers on the Cuba national baseball team, Cuban team at the 2006 World Baseball Classic: Yulieski González, Jonder Martínez and Yadier Pedroso. The team ceased operation in 2011, as La Habana province was divided in two new provinces, Artemisa Province, Artemisa and Mayabeque Province, Mayabeque, with their respective baseball teams, Cazadores de Artemisa (Hunters) and Huracanes de Mayabeque (Hurricanes). Mayabeque Province
Mayabeque Province is one of two new provinces created from the former La Habana Province, whose creation was approved by the Cuban National Assembly on August 1, 2010, the other being Artemisa Province. The new provinces came in to existence on January 1, 2011. Overview Mayabeque is made up of the 11 eastern municipalities of the former La Habana province, with the capital in San José de las Lajas. Mayabeque Province is named after the Mayabeque River (the largest in this territory) as well as the south shore of Mayabeque beach, the place believed to be the original location of Havana village (San Cristóbal de La Habana) that was founded in 1514. The new province became the smallest (excluding Havana city province) and least populated province in the country. Mayabeque's economy is based on agriculture (potatoes, fruits, vegetables, sugar cane) and livestock farming, particularly milk production.
