Handanović (In Slovene also Handanovič) is a Bosnian Muslim surname, traditionally found in northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina. A 1925 ethnographic study recorded 9 houses of a Handanović family in the village of Vikići. A 1930 ethnographic study recorded the ''mahala'' (hamlet) of Handanovići and 5 houses of a Handanović family in the village of Hrustovo, Sanski Most, a family which originated from Lika (tradition holds that most Hrustovo Muslim families fled Lika after Stojan Janković expelled them). Samir Handanović
Samir Handanović (born 14 July 1984) is a Slovenian former professional Association football, footballer who played as a Goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper. Since August 2024, he is the head coach of Inter Milan's Inter Milan Youth Sector, under-17 team. Before moving to Italy, Handanović played in his home country of Slovenia. In 2004, he was acquired by Udinese Calcio, Udinese but spent the next few years on loan, playing for teams such as Treviso F.B.C. 1993, Treviso, S.S. Lazio, Lazio and Rimini Calcio F.C., Rimini. Handanović returned to Udinese ahead of the 2007–08 season, where he played as a starter for the next five years. Jasmin Handanović
Jasmin Handanović (born 28 January 1978) is a Slovenian retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is the oldest player to ever play in the Slovenian top division. Club career In July 2010, Handanović was signed by Empoli, replacing Davide Bassi as the new first choice. However, he was then replaced by Alberto Pelagotti. In 2011, he signed for Maribor. While playing for Maribor, on 5 November 2014, in a UEFA Champions League group match against Chelsea, he saved an 85th-minute penalty from Eden Hazard to ensure a 1–1 draw. Handanović retired from professional football after the 2020–21 season. His jersey with the number 33 was retired by Maribor. Lika () is a traditional region of Croatia proper, roughly bound by the Velebit mountain from the southwest and the Plješevica mountain from the northeast.
