Basque pelota (Basque language, Basque: '':eu:pilota, pilota'', Spanish Language, Spanish: '':es:pelota vasca, pelota vasca'', French Language, French: '':fr:pelote basque, pelote basque'') is the name for a variety of court sports played with a ball using one's hand, a racquet, racket, a wooden bat or a basket, against a wall (''frontis or Fronton (court), fronton'') or, more traditionally, with two teams face to face separated by a line on the ground or a net. The roots of this class of games can be traced to the Greek and other ancient cultures. The term '':es:Pelota, pelota'' probably comes from the Vulgar Latin term ''pilotta'' (ball game). It is a diminutive form of the word '':la:pila, pila'' which may relate to a hard linen or leather ball filled with '':la:pilus, pilus'' (fur or hair) or to the Latin words for wiktionary:pello#Latin, strike or Wikt:pelle#Latin, spade and is related to the English word '':wikt:pellet, pellet''. Ustaritz
Ustaritz (; ) is a town in the traditional Basque province of Labourd, now a commune in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, southwestern France. It is located on the river Nive some inland from Bayonne. Ustaritz station has rail connections to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, Cambo-les-Bains and Bayonne. Ustaritz was the location of the assembly of local Basque leaders before the French Revolution. The 19th-century French playwright and historian Jean-Joseph Ader (1796–1859) was born in Ustaritz.
