Guanajuato (state)
Guanajuato (), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Guanajuato ( es, Estado Libre y Soberano de Guanajuato), is one of the 32 states that make up the Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided into 46 municipalities and its capital city is Guanajuato. Guanajuato is in central Mexico. It is bordered by the states of Jalisco to the west, Zacatecas to the northwest, San Luis Potosí to the north, Querétaro to the east, and Michoacán to the south. It covers an area of . The state is home to several historically important cities, especially those along the "Bicentennial Route", which retraces the path of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla's insurgent army at the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence. This route begins at Dolores Hidalgo, and passes through the Sanctuary of Atotonilco, San Miguel de Allende, Celaya, and the capital of Guanajuato. Mexican Spanish ( es, español mexicano) is the variety of dialects and sociolects of the Spanish language spoken in Mexican territory. Mexico has the largest number of Spanish speakers, with more than twice as many as in any other country in the world. Spanish is spoken by just over 99.2% of the population, being the mother tongue of 93.8% and the second language of 5.4%. Variation The territory of contemporary Mexico is not coextensive with what might be termed Mexican Spanish. Juan Carlos Romero Hicks (Guanajuato, Guanajuato; December 10, 1955) is a Mexican politician and elected official, member of the National Action Party , and a Federal Senator since August 29, 2012. He was the Director General of the Mexican National Science and Technology Council (CONACyT) from 2006 to 2011. He served as Governor of Guanajuato from 2000 to 2006. From 1991 to 1999 he served as Chancellor of the University of Guanajuato. The Chamber of Deputies ( Spanish: ''Cámara de Diputados'', ) is the lower house of the Congress of the Union, the bicameral parliament of Mexico. The other chamber is the Senate. The structure and responsibilities of both chambers of Congress are defined in Articles 50 to 70 of the constitution.
