Ipecac Recordings
Ipecac Recordings is an independent record label based in California. It was founded on April 1, 1999 by Greg Werckman (ex-label manager of Alternative Tentacles, ex-lead singer of DUH, ex-employee of Mercury Records) and Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom and Mondo Cane) in Alameda, California. Originally the label was created for the sole purpose of releasing the first Fantômas album. Since then, they have gone on to distribute other artists like Melvins, Isis, as well as several of Patton's other projects and collaborations. The label is named after syrup of ipecac, an emetic, or vomit-inducing, medicine. Its slogan is "Ipecac Recordings—Making People Sick Since 1999." Business practices Ipecac is distinguished from most labels (independent labels included) by their policy of signing bands to only one album contracts. Werckman claims that "when starting our label we decided that it did not feel right to “own” the artists ...

Faith No More
Faith No More is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1979. Before settling on the current name in July 1983, the band performed under the names Sharp Young Men and later Faith No Man. Bassist Billy Gould, keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Roddy Bottum and drummer Mike Bordin are the longest-remaining members of the band, having been involved since its inception. The band underwent several early lineup changes, and some major changes later. The current lineup of Faith No More consists of Gould, Bordin, Bottum, lead guitarist Jon Hudson, and vocalist/lyricist Mike Patton. After releasing six studio albums, including best-selling records '' The Real Thing'' (1989) and '' Angel Dust'' (1992), Faith No More officially announced its breakup on April 20, 1998. The band has since reunited, conducting The Second Coming Tour between 2009 and 2010, and releasing its seventh studio album, ''Sol Invictus'', in May 2015. DUH (band)
DUH (Death's Ugly Head) was a San Francisco-based alternative and noise rock supergroup. The band comprised an ever-rotating line-up that featured members of Steel Pole Bath Tub, Faith No More, Models, Fang, Milk Cult, Phantom 309, Pansy Division and Despise You. History DUH was founded in 1990 by Tom Flynn, Gary Held, Bob McDonald, Mike Morasky. Morasky and Flynn had been long active in the California underground punk scene and were founding members of Steel Pole Bath Tub and Fang respectively. Held was a record label owner, having founded Communion Label, Revolver USA and Tupelo Recording Company, and had performed with Phantom 309. McDonald had been the lead vocalist of the Denver-based punk band Bum Kon before moving to California. Most of the band knew each other from their association with Boner Records. In 1991 they issued their debut album, titled '' Blowhard'', on Boner Records. After performing a handful of live shows, DUH dispersed in late 1992 and its memb ...

The Unholy Handjob
''The Unholy Handjob'' is the second studio album by DUH, released in 1995 by Alternative Tentacles. Music Because of the less than serious nature of the project, the music of ''The Unholy Handjob'' is based around simplified riffs and notably more alternative metal-based than its predecessor, which was firmly rooted in noisy garage rock and sludge metal. The track "Pricks Are Heavy" is a live performance of the band opening for L7 at Whisky a Go Go. The track's title is a pun of '' Bricks Are Heavy'' by L7, comprises a tongue-in-cheek and haphazardly performed medley of "Heart-Shaped Box" by Nirvana, " Basket Case" by Green Day and " Shitlist" by L7 in-between vocalist Greg Werckman aggressively taunting the crowd. Reception Ned Raggett, who had written a positive review of the band's debut, was critical of ''The Unholy Handjob''. He gave the album two-and-a-half out of five stars, saying "the vocalist (clearly not Biafra, that much is clear) aims for yelled pseudo-metal ...

Perfect Sound Forever (magazine)
''Perfect Sound Forever'' (est. 1995) is one of the longest-running online-only music magazines. Along with Michael Goldberg's ''Addicted to Noise'' (est. 1994), it is one of the first publications to post recurring, feature-length music journalism online. PSF's origins trace back to New York freelance writer Jason Gross, who began a now-defunct website called Furious Green Thoughts (from the noted Noam Chomsky quote). The site was first hosted by the pre-Earthlink ISP Pipeline, and included articles covering politics, music and fiction. In 1995, Furious Green Thoughts was splintered into three sections, with the main title covering political (usually far-left) stories, "Assorted Realities" covering fiction and "Perfect Sound Forever" covering music. Laboring as a staff of one, Gross eventually folded Furious Green Thoughts and Assorted Realities, simplifying the zine's name to ''Perfect Sound Forever'' by the mid-1990s. PSF also moved from monthly to bi-monthly publication, wi ...

Jello Biafra
Eric Reed Boucher (born June 17, 1958), known professionally as Jello Biafra, is an American singer, spoken word artist and politician. He is the former lead singer and songwriter for the San Francisco punk rock band Dead Kennedys. Initially active from 1979 to 1986, Dead Kennedys were known for rapid-fire music topped with Biafra's sardonic lyrics and biting social commentary, delivered in his "unique quiver of a voice". When the band broke up in 1986, he took over the influential independent record label Alternative Tentacles, which he had founded in 1979 with Dead Kennedys bandmate East Bay Ray. In a 2000 lawsuit, upheld on appeal in 2003 by the California Supreme Court, Biafra was found liable for breach of contract, fraud and malice in withholding a decade's worth of royalties from his former bandmates and ordered to pay over $200,000 in compensation and punitive damages; the band subsequently reformed without Biafra. Although now focused primarily on spoken word performance ...
