Greg Hemphill
Gregory Edward Hemphill (born 14 December 1969) is a Scottish-Canadian comedian, actor, writer, and director. He is best known for his work with Ford Kiernan on the BBC Scotland comedy series ''Chewin' The Fat'' (1999–2005) and ''Still Game'' (2002–2007, 2016–2019). Hemphill was Rector of the University of Glasgow (2001–2004). Personal life Hemphill was born in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Edward, a chartered accountant, and Anne Hemphill (née Brophy) a teacher. The family left Scotland in the mid 1970s, and he spent much of his childhood in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, which has contributed to his distinctive accent, Scottish Canadians, Scottish-Canadian. He returned to Scotland in the late 1980s to study at the University of Glasgow, where he achieved an Master of Arts (Scotland), MA Honours Degree in theatre, film and television. Springburn
Springburn ( gd, Allt an Fhuairainn) is an inner-city district in the north of the Scottish city of Glasgow, made up of generally working-class households. Springburn developed from a rural hamlet at the beginning of the 19th century. Its industrial expansion began with the establishment of a chemical works by Charles Tennant on the newly opened Monkland Canal at nearby St. Rollox in 1799, which later became part of the United Alkali Company. Later in the 19th century, the construction of railway lines through the area led to the establishment of railway works and the village became a parish in its own right. The Garnkirk and Glasgow Railway first opened in 1831 to supply the St. Rollox Chemical Works and the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway was opened in 1842. Hububb
Hububb is a Children's Television programme broadcast on BBC One in the United Kingdom, it was named after Les Bubb who also played the title character with the same name. The show ran from 1997 until 2001. Five series of the show were made. It was repeated on the CBBC Channel in 2002. The show is about a delivery man who lives in a tower in the centre of Edinburgh who kept getting into all sorts of bother, he is also known for using his trusty mountain bike which he uses for his work. Eddie Mair
Eddie Mair (born 12 November 1965) is a Scottish broadcaster who was a presenter on BBC radio and television. He presented his show on LBC between 4pm and 6pm every weekday until his last one, on 18 August 2022, after which he retired from broadcasting. He also hosted BBC Radio 4's daily news magazine '' PM'', the Radio 4 Saturday ''iPM'', and ''NewsPod''. He occasionally presented '' Newsnight'' and ''Any Questions''. Mair became a stand-in presenter for ''The Andrew Marr Show'' following Marr's stroke. Mair left the BBC in August 2018. Early life Mair was born in Dundee. So You Think You're Funny? (SYTYF) is an annual stand-up comedy competition for new acts. The competition began in 1988 in the United Kingdom. The finals are held every August at The Gilded Balloon during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Past winners include Aisling Bea, Dylan Moran, Lee Mack, Peter Kay and David O'Doherty. Alasdair Gray
Alasdair James Gray (28 December 1934 – 29 December 2019) was a Scottish writer and artist. His first novel, ''Lanark: A Life in Four Books, Lanark'' (1981), is seen as a landmark of Scottish fiction. He published novels, short stories, plays, poetry and translations, and wrote on politics and the history of English and Scots (language), Scots literature. His works of fiction combine Literary realism, realism, fantasy, and science fiction with the use of his own typography and illustrations, and won several awards. The Toronto Blue Jays are a Canadian professional baseball team based in Toronto. The Blue Jays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. Since 1989, the team has played its home games primarily at Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto.
