The Great Britain national wheelchair rugby team represents Great Britain in international wheelchair rugby. Great Britain is the most successful team in European competition, winning six gold medals at the European Championship and a gold at the 2020 Paralympic Games. Since a national poll as part of The Last Leg, the team have been known as ''The Sweet Chariots. Paralympics Great Britain has competed in every wheelchair rugby tournament at the Paralympic Games, first when it was a demonstration sport in 1996, then since it entered the official program in 2000. The Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Limited (GBWR) is a non-profit organisation and the sports governing body, governing body for wheelchair rugby in Great Britain. The organisation represents Great Britain in International Wheelchair Rugby Federation, IWRF and the Great Britain national wheelchair rugby team, national wheelchair rugby team in the British Paralympic Association. The Last Leg
''The Last Leg'' (known during its first series as ''The Last Leg with Adam Hills'' and in Australia as ''Adam Hills: The Last Leg'') is a British comedy and late-night television talk/sketch show that originally ran alongside the 2012 Summer Paralympics every night following the main coverage on Channel 4. Anchored by Australian comedian Adam Hills and co-hosted by Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker, it gives a review of the week's events. Featuring a mix of comedy, guests and Paralympics highlights, the show received strong reviews and regularly pulled in more than a million viewers each night of the Paralympic Games. It has since become a weekly show giving a humorous alternative look back at the week's events. Outside of the UK, the show is broadcast in Hills' native Australia by the ABC, albeit delayed until the Tuesday of the next week and with a different theme tune. Kylie Grimes
Kylie Grimes (born 7 December 1987 in Aldershot, Hampshire) is a British para-athlete. She is one of two women, along with Bieke Ketelbuters, who competed on wheelchair rugby teams at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. She was part of the GB team to win their first ever gold in the event, at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, beating the USA 54–49. In doing so she became the first woman of any country to win a Paralympic gold medal in the sport. Early life Grimes became disabled after a diving accident at a friend's swimming pool. She attempted to sue over the matter but was unsuccessful. She trains 12 hours a week. She considers herself positive and was surprised to be named to the British team. Career Grimes began playing wheelchair rugby in 2008. She is a gold medallist wheelchair rugby winner, the only female on the paralympics GB team, at Paralympics Tokyo 2020/2021. Jonathan Coggan
Jonathan Coggan (born 25 April 1983) is a British paralympic wheelchair rugby player. He won a gold medal for the Great Britain national wheelchair rugby team at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in the mixed event. Ayaz Bhuta
Ayaz Mazeed Bhuta (born 17 April 1989) is a British Paralympic wheelchair rugby player and a former wheelchair basketball player who currently plays for the Great Britain national wheelchair rugby team. He has represented Great Britain at the Paralympics in 2016 and 2020. Biography Ayaz was born with a rare genetic disorder called Roberts Syndrome which affects the growth of bones in arms and legs. He studied at Mount St Joseph School. Career He initially played wheelchair basketball but later switched to wheelchair rugby in 2009. He began playing club rugby in 2009 and was subsequently selected to the national team in 2010 for a tri-nation series in Australia.
