Mark Gosling
Mark Gosling (7 August 1886 – 3 May 1980) was an English Australian painter, building contractor and Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch), Labor member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the districts of Electoral district of St George, St George (1920–1927), Electoral district of Oatley, Oatley (1927–1930) and Electoral district of Kogarah, Kogarah (1930–1932). He served as Chief Secretary of New South Wales, Colonial Secretary of New South Wales from May to October 1927 and again from November 1930 to May 1932. Biography The son of labourer Samuel Gosling and Hannah Nelms, Mark Gosling was born on 7 August 1886 in Birmingham, England. William Gilbert Gosling (September 8, 1863 – November 5, 1930) was a politician, businessman and author. From 1916 to 1920, he served as the mayor of St. John's, Newfoundland. Early life William Gilbert Gosling was born in Paget Parish, Bermuda to Charles Gray Gosling and Elizabeth Gilbert. The second of their six sons, Gosling attended Pembroke Grammar School in Hamilton, Bermuda. On June 22, 1881, he moved to St. John's, Newfoundland (now a province of Canada) to work as a clerk for the fish exporting firm Harvey and Company. William Gosling (born 1932) is a British electrical engineer, Emeritus Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Bath, and pioneer of system design in electrical engineering. Biography Gosling received his ARCS at the Imperial College in London in 1953 under George Paget Thomson, and spent his career both in industry and education. Early 1960s he wrote a series of books, which contributed to the establishment of systems design and systems engineering. In 1967 Gosling became Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Swansea University. From 1969 to 1971 he was Chair of the Design Research Society. Major William Gosling VC (15 August 1892 – 12 February 1945) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. William Gosling was born in Wanborough, Wiltshire, one of four children to farmer Albert Gosling and his wife Elizabeth. After his education in the village school he worked alongside his father as a wheat farmer. Following his father's death in a farming accident, the family relocated to Wroughton where Elizabeth, assisted by William and his two elder brothers, took up tenancy of Artis Farm. In 1908, Gosling enlisted with the Territorial Force. At the age of 18 he emigrated to Canada, where he worked on grain silos before becoming a fireman on the Canadian Pacific Railway.
