Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Godspeed You! Black Emperor (sometimes abbreviated to GY!BE or Godspeed) is a Canadian post-rock band which originated in Montreal, Quebec in 1994. The group releases recordings through Constellation, an independent record label also located in Montreal. After the release of their debut album in 1997, the group toured regularly from 1998 to 2003. Their second album, 2000's '' Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven'', received critical acclaim and has been named as one of the best albums of the decade. In 2003, the band announced an indefinite hiatus in order for members to pursue other musical interests. In the intervening period, the group was occasionally rumored to have broken up, but finally reconvened for a tour which began in late 2010. Since reforming, they have released four more albums, the most recent being ''G_d's Pee at State's End!'' in April 2021. Mauro Pezzente
Mauro Pezzente is a Canadian musician. He is best known as being co-founder of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Pezzente, along with Efrim Menuck and Mike Moya, founded Godspeed You! Black Emperor in 1994. Along with Thierry Amar, Pezzente plays the bass guitar for the band. Pezzente was the first to live and perform within the Hotel2Tango. Christening it the Gallery Quiva, Pezzente and his partner Kiva Stimac played infrequent shows there until exhaust and carbon monoxide from the garage below the loft caused them to move out. Efrim Menuck soon moved in and renamed it. ''G_d's Pee at State's End!'' (stylised as ''G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END!'') is the seventh studio album by Canadian post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor, released on 2 April 2021 by Constellation Records. Background In August 2019, the band played two new songs, "Glacier" and "Cliff", as a part of their live sets for the first time. According to a statement by the band, the material for the album was recorded in October 2020. On 2 March 2021, the band released a video with a minute-long preview of the first track on the album: "A Military Alphabet (five eyes all blind) (4521.0kHz 6730.0kHz 4109.09kHz) / Job's Lament / First of the Last Glaciers / where we break how we shine (Rockets for Mary)". ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It was first released on August 14, 1997 through Constellation Records on a single LP and on June 8, 1998 through Kranky on CD. The CD version and the LP version have substantial differences between them. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. Karl Lemieux is a Canadian film director best known for his collaborations with Montreal-based post rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor and his 2016 film '' Shambles''. Biography Karl Lemieux joined Godspeed You! Black Emperor in 2010 – when the band came back after a seven-year hiatus – providing film projections shown at live concerts. Those projections largely consist of expressionist tapes shot at empty roads in Canada. He has also designed video projections for the 2012–2013 El Camino Tour by The Black Keys. David Bryant (born April 8, 1970) is a Canadian musician, recording engineer, and film-maker best known for being a member of Montreal-based bands Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Set Fire to Flames, and Hiss Tracts. In 2015, he co-directed the film '' Quiet Zone'' and has written music for other films. Biography David Bryant joined Godspeed You!
