Gillitts
Gillitts is a town in the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa. Overview It is about inland from the Durban city centre at an elevation of 1800 feet (600 m ASL). Although Durban is semi-tropical and very humid, Gillitts is above the humidity and is not humid, except when it is in the clouds, which generally occurs in summer. It is in the mist belt area, so this area gets a fair amount of mist which many of the residents complain about. It is positioned near the currently burgeoning Hillcrest and Kloof. The whole area is known as the Upper Highway Area as the M13 highway intersects it. While some residents do seem to complain about the mist, it does usually come as a welcome relief to the intense humidity of the area. Gillitts has remained fairly stable while Kloof and Hillcrest in the surrounding areas are growing quite rapidly. Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal
Hillcrest is a town in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. Organisationally and administratively it is included in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality as a suburb of the Outer West region. History Hillcrest was formerly a sleepy village, governed by its own Town Board on the outskirts of Durban that has now become a booming suburb incorporated into the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. ''Hill Crest'' (as the town's name was variously spelt until 1969) was founded on a rise in the main road from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in 1895 as a farming or "weekend" village, then a good distance from what was the emerging port of Port Natal. Iphithi Nature Reserve
__NOTOC__ The Iphithi Nature Reserve conserves 12 ha of forest and wetland in the Molweni River's upper catchment in northern Gillitts, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was founded in 2001 by a group of nearby residents, and is managed by the Gillitts Conservancy, which also oversees the Minerva grassland. Setting and origins It is situated in the mPhiti valley, which is flanked by Ashley and Edward drives. A stand of invasive eucalypts was present here for 50 years up to 2001. Residents bordering the valley organised a committee and contracted a logger to fell these. The committee was paid a lump sum for the valuable timber which it used to establish the reserve, fence off additional entrances and pay for the laying of paths, building of viewing decks and planting of indigenous flora. Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal
Kloof is a leafy upper-class town, that includes a smaller area called Everton, located approximately 26 km north-west of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Once an independent municipality, it now forms part of greater Durban area of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality. The word ''Kloof'' (''cf.'' cleft) means 'gorge' in Afrikaans and the area is named after the deep ravine formed by the Molweni stream ''(stream of high cliffs)''. Richard "Rick" Crouch (born 6 September 1960) is a South African politician and City Councillor in the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality representing the official opposition Democratic Alliance. Aside from being a former politician Crouch is a private investigator and a qualified commercial pilot. Education Crouch matriculated from Mansfield High School in 1979. He joined the Democratic Alliance's predecessor, the Democratic Party, in 1980 as a student activist. The M13 or King Cetshwayo Highway is a metropolitan route in the Ethekwini Metropolitan Municipality in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. For part of its route, it is a highway and it acts as an alternative route to the N3 Highway for travel between the suburbs closer to the Durban CBD and the Outer West Suburbs ( Assagay). Route The route starts in the Durban Central Business District. For the first few kilometres of its length, it runs parallel to the N3 on both sides as King Ndinuzulu Road North and King Ndinuzulu Road South (formerly Berea Road).
