German Zakharyayev
German Rashbilovich Zakharyayev (russian: Герман Рашбилович Захарьяев; born July 7, 1971, Gyrmyzy Gasaba, Azerbaijan SSR, Soviet Union) is an Azerbaijani-born businessman, public figure and philanthropist. He is a vice-president of the Russian Jewish Congress and the president of the International Charity Foundation of Mountain Jews STMEGI. Biography German Zakharyayev was born in a large Mountain-Jewish family in Krasnaya Sloboda village in Azerbaijan on July 7, 1971. His father was a famous journalist and poet Rashbil Zakharyayev. In 1992 he moved to Russia and started his own trade business. He is the president of the STMEGI foundation, founded in 2001, and vice-president of the Russian Jewish Congress. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. Pinchas Goldschmidt
Pinchas Goldschmidt (born 21 July 1963) is a Swiss-born, internationally known rabbi, scholar, and Jewish community leader. He was the Chief Rabbi of Moscow, Russia from 1993 until 2022, serving at the Moscow Choral Synagogue. He also founded and has headed the Moscow Rabbinical Court of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) since 1989. From 2011, Goldschmidt has served as president of the Conference of European Rabbis (CER), which unites over seven hundred communal rabbis from Dublin, Ireland to Khabarovsk, in the Russian Far East. The history of the Jews in Azerbaijan dates back many centuries. Today, Jews in Azerbaijan mainly consist of three distinct groups: Mountain Jews, the most sizable and most ancient group; Ashkenazi Jews, who settled in the area during the late 19th-early 20th centuries, and during World War II; and Georgian Jews who settled mainly in Baku during the early part of the 20th century. Distribution Historically, Jews in Azerbaijan have been represented by various subgroups, mainly Mountain Jews, Ashkenazi Jews and Georgian Jews. Yisrael Meir Lau ( he, ישראל מאיר לאו; born 1 June 1937) served as the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, Israel, and chairman of Yad Vashem. Yitzhak Yosef ( he, יצחק יוסף, born January 16, 1952) is the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel (known as the Rishon LeZion), the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Hazon Ovadia, and the author of a set of books on ''halakha'' (Jewish law) called Yalkut Yosef. Yosef is the son of Ovadia Yosef, former Chief Rabbi of Israel, and bases his ''halakhic'' rulings on his father's methodology. Qırmızı Qəsəbə (, ), translated as "Red Town" (russian: Красная Слобода, ; he, , ), is a village and municipality in the Quba District of Azerbaijan. It has a population of approximately 3,598 people.
