William Ward (astronomer)
William Roger Ward (January 11, 1944 – September 20, 2018) was an American astronomer. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, Ward studied mathematics and physics at University of Missouri, and completed a doctoral degree at California Institute of Technology in 1972. He became an astronomy theoretician, studying how planetary systems formed and evolved. His career began at the Harvard's Center for Astrophysics, then he moved to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1977. In 1998 he joined the Southwest Research Institute branch located in Boulder, Colorado. He retired in 2014. Over the course of his research career, he received the Brouwer Award from the Division on Dynamical Astronomy of the American Astronomical Society in 2003, and the Gerard P. Kuiper Prize in 2011. He was granted fellowship by the American Geophysical Union (2005), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2006), and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2012). Michael A'Hearn
Michael Francis A'Hearn (November 17, 1940 – May 29, 2017) was an American astronomer and astronomy professor at the University of Maryland College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences. He was also the principal investigator for NASA's EPOXI mission. Career He received his B.A. in science at Boston College and his Ph.D. in Astronomy at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He was the principal investigator for the NASA '' Deep Impact'' mission. He aided in the development of systems for surveying abundances in comets as well as techniques for determining the sizes of cometary nuclei which uses optical and infrared measurements. His studies focused on comets as well as asteroids and he also supervises numerous graduate students. He was an elected fellow of the AAAS. Andrew Perry Ingersoll is a professor of planetary science at the California Institute of Technology. Ingersoll was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1997. He received the lifetime achievement award in planetary science, the Gerard P. Kuiper Prize, in 2007. He proposed the runaway greenhouse effect and is known for his research on planetary atmospheres and climate. Eberhard Grün (born 30 March 1942, in Germany) is a German planetary scientist who specialized in cosmic dust research. He is an active emeritus at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK), Heidelberg (Germany), research associate at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) in Boulder (Colorado), and was a professor at the University of Heidelberg until his retirement in 2007.
