As of the 2020 United States census, the town had a population of 33,576. The town may have been named after Mount Carmel in Israel. Carmel High School (Carmel, New York)
Carmel High School is a public high school in Carmel, New York, currently serving grades 9-12. It is the only high school in the Carmel Central School District. The district includes part of Carmel, and part or all of several nearby towns, mostly in Putnam County, New York but also includes a small number of students from Dutchess County. School athletic teams are known as the Rams, which were the NYSPHSAA football champions (due to success of student John "Bubbles" Collazo) in the 2021 season. The 1965 Carmel mid-air collision occurred on December 4, 1965, when Eastern Air Lines Flight 853 (N6218C), a Lockheed Super Constellation en route from Boston Logan International Airport to Newark International Airport, collided in mid-air with Trans World Airlines Flight 42 (N748TW), a Boeing 707-131B en route from San Francisco International Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport, over Carmel, New York, United States. TWA Flight 42 made an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, while Eastern Air Lines Flight 853 was forced to make a crash landing on Hunt Mountain in North Salem, New York. Putnam Valley is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The population was 11,809 at the 2010 census. Its location is northeast of New York City, in the southwestern part of Putnam County.Putnam Valley calls itself the "Town of Lakes". Patterson is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The town is in the northeastern part of the county. Interstate 84 passes through the southwestern section of the town. The population was 11,541 at the 2020 census. The town is named after early farmer Matthew Paterson. Kent, New York
Kent is a town in Putnam County, New York, United States. The population was 12,900 at the 2020 census. The name is that of an early settler family. The town is in the north-central part of the Putnam County. Many of the lakes are reservoirs for New York City. History Kent was part of the Philipse Patent of 1697, when it was still populated by the Wappinger tribe. Daniel Nimham (1724–1778) was the last chief of the Wappingers and was the most prominent Native American of his time in the Hudson Valley. Sybil Ludington
Sybil (or Sibbell) Ludington (April 5, 1761 – February 26, 1839) is recognized as a heroine of the American Revolutionary War; the accuracy of these accounts is questioned by modern scholars. On April 26, 1777, the 16-year-old daughter of a colonel in the Colonial militia, Henry Ludington, is said to have made an all-night horseback ride to rally militia forces in neighboring towns after the burning of Danbury, Connecticut by British forces. Accounts of Ludington's ride are based on a brief mention in 1907 memoirs about her father, published privately by his grandchildren.
