Gwar
Gwar, often stylized as GWAR, is an American heavy metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 1984, composed of and operated by a frequently rotating line-up of musicians, artists, and filmmakers collectively known as Slave Pit Inc. Since the death of frontman Dave Brockie in 2014, the collective has continued recording and performing without any of its founding artists or musicians. Identified by their distinctively grotesque costumes, Gwar's core thematic and visual concept revolves around an elaborate science fiction-themed mythology which portrays the band members as barbaric medieval Nordic, mythological, biblical or interplanetary warriors, a narrative which serves as the basis for all of the band's albums, live shows and media. With over-the-top violent, sexual, and scatological humor typically incorporating social and political satire, Gwar has attracted both acclaim and controversy for its music and stage shows, the latter of which notoriously showcase enactments ...

Shock Rock
Shock rock is the combination of rock music or heavy metal music with highly theatrical live performances emphasizing shock value. Performances may include violent or provocative behavior from the artists, the use of attention-grabbing imagery such as costumes, masks, or face paint, or special effects such as pyrotechnics or fake blood. Shock rock also often includes elements of horror. History Screamin' Jay Hawkins has been seen as a pioneer for shock rock. After the success of his 1956 hit " I Put a Spell on You", Hawkins began to perform a recurring stunt at many of his live shows: he would emerge from a coffin, sing into a skull-shaped microphone and set off smoke bombs. Another artist who performed similar stunts was the British singer-songwriter Screaming Lord Sutch. The 1960s brought several proto-shock rock artists. In the UK, the Who often destroyed their instruments, the Move did the same to television sets, and Arthur Brown wore vivid makeup and a flaming he ...

Beefcake The Mighty
Beefcake the Mighty is the bass guitarist of the heavy metal band Gwar. The character appears as a stout humanoid (hence his name), girded in Roman-style armor. He is usually portrayed wielding either an oversized Gladius sword or a large battle-axe. Since 2019, Beefcake has been portrayed by Casey Orr, one of several musicians to portray the character over the band's history. Background According to Gwar mythos, Beefcake originates from the planet Cholesterol (where he met singer Oderus Urungus). He weighs approximately 299 tons and "invented music by stretching dinosaur guts across the Grand Canyon". In the early days of Gwar, Balsac the Jaws of Death played bass and Beefcake played guitar. However by the time Gwar's first album ''Hell-O'' had been released, the roles had switched, and Beefcake became the permanent bass player. Before their first album, the character of Beefcake was known as Cornelius Carnage and was played by Greg Ottiger. Soon, however, Cornelius Carnag ...

Blothar
Blöthar the Berserker is the current lead vocalist and occasional bassist in the heavy metal band Gwar. He appears as a stout, horned, pig-faced goblin. During Gwar's appearance at the 2014 Chicago Riot Fest, the character debuted udders that spray fluid on the crowd, similar to the "Cuttlefish of Cthulu" penile attachment sported by previous Gwar vocalist, Oderus Urungus. Blöthar is usually portrayed wielding a wooden shield and battle-axe. Background According to Gwar mythos, Blöthar came to Earth from Scumdoggia after his awakening shortly after the death of singer Oderus Urungus. Over the decades he had been watching Gwar getting girls and smoking crack off the back of the songs he had written, and he wanted a piece of the action. After a battle for supremacy, he took his place, reigning over Gwar and the Slave Pit. Blöthar's ceremonial headdress is fashioned from the gigantic antlers and the pelt of a Spectral Moon Moose he killed eons ago. He carries a mighty bat ...

Dave Brockie Experience
The Dave Brockie Experience or DBX was a rock band formed by three members of heavy metal band Gwar. The band was composed of David "Oderus Urungus" Brockie (vocals/bass), Brad " Jizmak Da Gusha" Roberts (drums), and Mike "Balsac the Jaws of Death" Derks (guitar). The DBX was a pet project of Gwar and showed some of their earlier punk roots from the "Death Piggy" era. At their shows they played some original DBX songs as well as some tunes from Death Piggy, Gwar, and X-Cops. The band enjoyed a following mostly made up of Gwar fans. Brockie hinted at the possibility of the band's breakup in the past due to the exhausting nature of lower-budget touring. In February 2008, several sources reported that the band would be touring as an opening act for the reunited Green Jellÿ Green Jellÿ (, ''green Jell-O'') is an American comedy rock band formed in 1981. Jizmak Da Gusha
Jizmak Da Gusha is the drummer for the heavy metal band Gwar. Although the costume has undergone many changes since the character was introduced, Jizmak's onstage get-up somewhat resembles a monstrous dog with very large teeth. He is usually seen wielding a large warhammer, most likely a reference to his role as drummer in the band. Gwar mythos According to Gwar mythos, Jizmak Da Gusha was a beast of tremendous power, native to a planet known as "The Wide Wide World of Sports", which, according to Balsac the Jaws of Death, has "lots of frisbees". He was frozen in a block of ice, presumably near the Gwar headquarters in Antarctica, for a millennium. When Gwar's former drummer Nippleus Erectus died after bathing in copious amounts of hydrochloric acid in the hope that it would work like LSD, and cause hallucinogenic effects, Gwar decided to thaw Jizmak to replace Nippleus. This was actually to replace Nippleus' replacement, Lee Beato, who was only present for a very short time ...
