Grush (album)
''Grush'' is a studio album by English record producer Mike Paradinas under the pseudonym μ-Ziq. It was released on 14 June 2024 through his record label Planet Mu. It received universal acclaim from critics. Background Much of the album was created in hotel rooms on tour. The songs were road-tested during Mike Paradinas' live shows, with his touring partner and visual artist Jan Moravec providing feedback. "Manscape" is a remix of Meemo Comma's song "Cloudscape". Critical reception Paul Simpson of AllMusic stated, "While drawing on '90s jungle and IDM for inspiration, the tracks are also filtered through more modern influences like footwork and trap, and they're often more club-friendly than earlier μ-Ziq efforts, having been developed on tour and road-tested at live gigs." Mike Paradinas
Michael Robert Paradinas (born 26 September 1971), better known by his stage name μ-Ziq (pronounced "music" or mu-zik), is an English electronic musician from Wimbledon, London. He was associated with the electronic style intelligent dance music (IDM) during the 1990s, and recorded on Rephlex Records and Reflective Records. His critically acclaimed 1997 album, ''Lunatic Harness'', helped define the drill 'n' bass subgenre and was also his most successful release, selling over 100,000 copies. Paradinas founded the record label Planet Mu, begun in 1995, where he has championed genres such as juke, IDM and footwork. ''Lunatic Harness'' is the fourth studio album by English electronic music producer Mike Paradinas under the stage name μ-Ziq. It was released on 30 June 1997 in the United Kingdom on the Planet Mu label, and on 29 July 1997 in the United States on the Astralwerks label. It was rereleased with bonus tracks from the ''My Little Beautiful'' and '' Brace Yourself'' singles in 2022 for its 25th anniversary. Critical reception A retrospective Apple Music editorial review describes ''Lunatic Harness'' as "the prettiest album to come out of the mid-'90s ' drill 'n' bass' movement", noting that Paradinas eschewed the abrasiveness of similar works by Squarepusher and Aphex Twin in favor of "atmospheres of ethereal color and shimmering melody", bringing the album "closer to pop music than anything Paradinas had previously attempted". ''Hangable Auto Bulb'' is a series of two 1995 EPs by electronic musician Richard D. James, under his alias AFX. The two were re-released by Warp Records as a single album on 31 October 2005. They marked James's first foray into rapid drill 'n' bass style beat programming. Overview Split across two 12" EPs, the second released eight weeks after the first, and each were limited to 1000 pressings. The records marked a significant change in sound from previous AFX and Aphex Twin releases. Metacritic is an American website that aggregates reviews of films, television shows, music albums, video games, and formerly books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted average). Planet Mu is an English electronic music record label created and run by Mike Paradinas. The label started out as a subsidiary of Virgin Records then Paradinas set up the label independent of Virgin. After releasing intelligent dance music, the label moved to jungle and breakcore, and then grime and dubstep and later footwork. The label also releases the music of Paradinas under various aliases such as μ-Ziq, Kid Spatula, and Tusken Raiders. It celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025. Beginning When Mike Paradinas signed as a musician to Virgin Records in the mid-1990s, Paradinas was asked for suggestions for the new dance subsidiary and suggested Planet Mu as a play on Carl Craig's label Planet E.
