Gregory (formerly Gregory Downs) is an outback town and locality in the Shire of Burke, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Gregory had a population of 122 people. Geography The town is situated on the banks of the perennial Gregory River. The Gregory River was named by explorer William Landsborough on 19 November 1861, after explorer Augustus Charles Gregory, the first Surveyor General of Queensland. The Gregory Highway is a state highway in Queensland, Australia that serves the major coal-mining centres of Central Queensland. The highway was named after Augustus Gregory, an early explorer. Route description The highway runs southward from Quartz Blow Creek, a point west of Mount Surprise on the Gulf Developmental Road, via Charters Towers, to Springsure, over away. The northern section of is designated by the state government as the Gregory Developmental Road. The shorter southern section between Clermont and Springsure () is designated the Gregory Highway. Gregory is a city in western Gregory County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 1,221 at the 2020 census. History Gregory was laid out in 1904. The city took its name from its location in Gregory County. A post office called Gregory has been in operation since 1904. Gregory is a Lunar craters, lunar impact crater on the Far side (Moon), far side of the Moon. It is located to the southeast of the crater Ibn Firnas (crater), Ibn Firnas, and north-northeast of Becvar (crater), Bečvář.
