Granly Speedway Arena
Granly Speedway Arena is a speedway track in Esbjerg, Denmark. The track is located on the Tinghedevej 9 road, about 16 kilometres east of the town and is adjacent to the Vestjysk Motocross Club. The stadium hosts the speedway team known as the Esbjerg Speedway Klub, who race in the Danish Speedway League and have been champions of Denmark 11 times, as of 2023. History Founded in 1929, Esbjerg Motor Sport bought a piece of moorland at the Korskro Inn, during the spring of 1946. After construction the stadium opened with an attendance of 6,000 spectators on 7 July 1946. The year of 1955 proved significant because speedway was moved to the Esbjerg Athletic Stadium due to financial problems. The track remained open however and was extended in size during 1955. Speedway returned in 1970 and the venue hosted the 1972 Danish Individual Speedway Championship. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Esbjerg Speedway Klub or Esbjerg Vikings (part of Esbjerg Motosport) is a speedway club from Esbjerg in Denmark, who compete in the Danish Speedway League. The team have won the Danish Speedway League title on 10 occasions in 1967, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1980, 1981, 1984, 2012, 2013. History 1929 to 1966 Esbjerg Motorsport was founded in 1929 as the Esbjerg Automobile and Motorcycle Club. After World War II the club acquired moorland and built a track called the Korskro Motor Center, which opened on 7 July 1946. Following financial issues and increased stadium safety costs during the early 1950s the club were forced to find a cheaper option and moved to the Esbjerg Athletic Stadium. The Danish Speedway League ( da, Dansk Speedway Liga) or Danish Super League or Metal League as it is called today is the top division of motorcycle speedway in Denmark. Danish Individual Speedway Championship
Individual Speedway Danish Championship is the National competition for Danish speedway riders to determine the champion of Denmark. The event was first held in 1947. From 1947 to 1951 there was no definitive difference between the short track and long track Championship of Denmark resulting in the same winner being recorded for both versions. Qualification Riders holding a Danish passport and a valid DMU licence. Riders must submit their entries at least four weeks before the first meeting of the competition. Any riders who competed in the Speedway Grand Prix or World Championship Qualifying rounds during the previous season are seeded directly to the Final. The DMU may also seed other riders directly to the Final at their discretion.
