Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Shaw performed in several local bands — including a stint in the Deverons alongside Burton Cummings before Cummings left to join the Guess Who in 1965. He formed the band the Sincere Serenaders in 1977, and signed a recording contract with Capitol Records. Shaw later revealed that the Capitol contract was for him as a solo artist, and that when he was preparing to record the band's debut studio album the label pressured him to fire the band and rely on session musicians, although he refused. Graham Paul Shaw (born 7 June 1967) is an English former footballer who made nearly 300 appearances in the Football League playing for Stoke City, Preston North End, Plymouth Argyle and Rochdale between 1985 and 1996. Playing career Stoke City Shaw was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme and signed on professional terms for local side Stoke City in June 1985 after progressing through the youth ranks at the Victoria Ground. He had a decent debut season for Stoke in 1985–86 scoring five goals in 22 appearances. He played in 20 matches in 1986–87 scoring twice and was top-scorer in 1987–88 with ten goals. During that season Stoke played Liverpool in the FA Cup and Shaw had the chance to win the match for Stoke after he was put through one on one with 'keeper Mike Hooper but Shaw hesitated thinking he was offside and the chance had gone. Shaw represented the Durham Cricket Board in List A cricket. His debut List A match came against Oxfordshire in the 1999 NatWest Trophy. Graham Shaw (born 1978) is a former Ireland men's field hockey international and the current coach of the New Zealand women's national field hockey team. Between 2002 and 2009 he made 151 appearances for Ireland and also represented them at the 2007 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship. As a coach he guided the Ireland women to the 2018 Women's Hockey World Cup final, winning the silver medal. As a player Shaw won Irish Senior Cup and EuroHockey Club Trophy titles with both Glenanne and Monkstown. On 9 May 2010 Shaw featured in two Irish Senior Cup finals on the same day, coaching Loreto to victory in the women's final before going onto play for Glenanne in the men's final.
