Gothic Revival
Gothic Revival (also referred to as Victorian Gothic or neo-Gothic) is an Architectural style, architectural movement that after a gradual build-up beginning in the second half of the 17th century became a widespread movement in the first half of the 19th century, mostly in England. Increasingly serious and learned admirers sought to revive medieval Gothic architecture, intending to complement or even supersede the Neoclassical architecture, neoclassical styles prevalent at the time. Gothic Revival draws upon features of medieval examples, including decorative patterns, finials, lancet windows, and hood moulds. By the middle of the 19th century, Gothic Revival had become the pre-eminent architectural style in the Western world, only to begin to fall out of fashion in the 1880s and early 1890s. St David's Uniting Church is a heritage-listed Uniting church and associated precinct at 51- 53 Dalhousie Street, Haberfield, Inner West Council, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by Simeon Lord, David Ramsay, William Munro, J. A. B. Campbell, Power, Adam, and Munning, Thomas Rowe, and Ferdinand Reuss and built from 1860 to 1900 by Williams, Ravers, Duffy and Cannon. St Philip's Church, Sydney, is the oldest Anglican church parish in Australia. The church is located in the Sydney city centre between York Street, Clarence and Jamison Streets on a location known as Church Hill. It is one of two churches in the Anglican Parish of Church Hill (the other being Holy Trinity, Miller's Point). Together, they are known as Church Hill Anglican. History The original church was built using convict labour by orders of the colony's first chaplain, the Reverend Richard Johnson, in June 1793. St Peter's Church is a heritage-listed former Anglican church precinct on the corner of Bourke Street and St Peters Street, in the inner city Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999 and is listed on the (now defunct) Australian Register of the National Estate. History The former church was built in 1866-67, with a vestry addition between 1871-83. It was designed by O. H. Lewis, son of Colonial Architect Mortimer Lewis, and is his only known work. The old St Paul's Church of England sandstone building is a heritage-listed former Anglican church building and former bookshop at 346 Marsden Road, Carlingford, City of Parramatta, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is also known as The old St Paul's Anglican sandstone building and The Old Church Bookshop. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. It is noted here that whilst it is sometimes called St Paul's Anglican Church, that is an anachronism. The building was sold before the name of the denomination in Australia changed frrom "Church of England" to "Anglican".
