Lucy Goode Brooks
Lucy Goode Brooks (September 13, 1818October 7, 1900) was an American slave who was instrumental in the founding of the Friends' Asylum for Colored Orphans in Richmond, Virginia. Early life and education Goode was born on September 13, 1818, in Virginia to the slave Judith Goode and a white man. She met another slave, Albert Royal Brooks, and taught him to read and write so that they could write passes to see each other. When her master died in 1838, she became the property of a man named Sublett. That same year, she joined the First Baptist Church of Richmond. Shortly after Goode became Sublett's property, he allowed her to marry Brooks on February 2, 1839, and allowed them to live together. Albert's owner allowed him to operate a livery stable, for which he collected rent, but also permitted Albert to keep his additional earnings and use them to buy his freedom. Caroline Goode Queen's Police Medal, QPM is a British retired police detective, who served for 33 years in the Metropolitan Police in London and in Counter Terrorism Command. She was awarded the Queen's Police Medal in the 2012 New Year Honours for leading the investigation into the murder of Murder of Banaz Mahmod, Banaz Mahmod. She wrote a book about the case which also featured as a TV drama, ''Honour (TV series), Honour'' starring Keeley Hawes. Her work on the case involved convictions of the first ever men extradited from Iraq to the UK. They were jailed for more than 20 years each. David Goode (born October 1966, in Oxford) is a British sculptor. He attended the Sir Henry Doulton School of Sculpture in Stoke-on-Trent and specialized in portraits and figurative work. In 1988, at the age of 21, he started work as a portrait sculptor at Madame Tussauds in London, making him the youngest ever waxwork modeller to have worked for Madame Tussauds. David Goode (born 1971) is a British organist and composer. Life and career Goode was a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral, briefly attended Wells Cathedral School, was then a music scholar at Eton College and then organ scholar at King's College, Cambridge 1991–94. While there, he studied the organ with David Sanger and Jacques van Oortmerssen. From 1996–2001, he was sub-organist at Christ Church, Oxford. He won major prizes at the 1997 St. Alban's Interpretation Competition and at the 1998 Calgary Competition. Daniel Goode (born January 24, 1936) is an American composer and clarinetist. Daniel Goode was born in New York City. After graduating in 1957 from Oberlin College, he studied composition at Columbia University with Henry Cowell and Otto Luening, receiving an MA 1962. He pursued further studies at the University of San Diego with Pauline Oliveros and Kenneth Gaburo (Benary and Sandow 2001). Goode's works show influence from several sources, including bird song, Cape Breton fiddling, drone, Indonesian gamelan music, and minimal music (specifically music as a gradual process). Often two or more of these elements are combined in a single composition. Conrad Lawrence Goode (born January 9, 1962) is an American actor, screenwriter, film producer, musician, artist and former professional NFL player. Early life and education Goode was born in Columbia, Missouri and attended Parkway Central High School. He is the stepson of Irv Goode and the son of former Mizzou All-American Conrad Hitchler. George Coleridge Emerson Goode (29 November 1914 – 2 October 2015) was a British Jamaican-born jazz bassist best known for his long collaboration with alto saxophonist Joe Harriott. Goode was a member of Harriott's innovatory jazz quintet throughout its eight-year existence as a regular unit (1958–65). Goode was also involved with the saxophonist's later pioneering blend of jazz and Indian music in Indo-Jazz Fusions, the group Harriott co-led with composer/violinist John Mayer. Clarence Goode (17 August 1875 – 30 April 1969) was a farmer and politician in South Australia. Descendants pronounce the family name to rhyme with "wood". History Clarence was born at Canowie Station the son of Thomas Goode. He was educated privately and at the Canowie Public School, then at Frederick Caterer's Glenelg Grammar School. He was for many years occupied in farming and grazing (at Laura then with Albert Powell at Booyoolie estate near Gladstone), and was elected Councillor for the Corporate Town of Gladstone in December 1902, and was returned unopposed two years later. Chris Kimberly Goode (born September 17, 1963) is a former American football defensive back who played with the National Football League's Indianapolis Colts. Goode was drafted by the Colts in the 1987 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He recorded 2 sacks and 7 interceptions in his NFL career. Charles James Goode (born 3 August 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for club Brentford. A graduate of the Fulham Academy, Goode began his senior career in non-League football, before breaking into League football with Scunthorpe United in 2015.
