Go Skateboarding Day (GSD) is an event created by Don Brown, formerly IASC Marketing Director and co-created with Per Welinder who wanted a day for the global skate community to all ride together and elevate the energy of skateboarding around the world. History Go Skateboarding Day was created in 2003 by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to help make skateboarding more accessible through events held in major cities around the world. The first event events happened in 2004 where the skate industry got their local communities together to skate BBQ and have fun. Etnies, èS, Emerica, Vans, Birdhouse, and many others all gathered at the etnies skate park in Lake Forest, CA. Per Welinder
Per Nils Welinder (born April 17, 1962) is a Swedish entrepreneur and former professional skateboarder. During the 1980s he achieved international fame as a freestyle skater and was a leading member of the Powell-Peralta skate team known as the "Bones Brigade". He had a number of influential video parts with Powell during the 1980s, a series of signature models, and roles in several Hollywood movies. Welinder also has the unique distinction of being the only person to have ever beaten Rodney Mullen in a professional skate contest. Biography Welinder was born in Täby, just outside Stockholm. In the 1980s, Welinder and Rodney Mullen were competitors in freestyle skateboarding, and Welinder regularly placed second to Mullen's first place. The International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) is a for-profit trade association that seeks to promote skateboarding as a leisure activity. Its board of directors includes representatives of a number of skateboarding companies who in turn represent a membership base of "skateboard manufacturers, distributors, contest organizers, ramp designers and individuals".
