Glynn Sudbery
Glynn Orville "Sudsy" Sudbery (June 27, 1942 – March 11, 1984) was an American gay activist. Life Sudbery was born on June 27, 1942 in Metairie, Louisiana to Glen John Sudbery and Katherine Mayeaux Sudbery. He graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1960 and then enrolled at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Sudbery served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1967. He served as a delegate for Edmund S. Muskie at the 1972 Democratic National Convention. He worked as campaign manager for Dawn Clark Netsch in 1974 and as the executive director of the Independent Precinct Organization. In his free time, he and Dave Vanderah, with whom Sudbery shared a home, were avid gardeners. Sudbery left politics in the 1970s to devote his focus to Chicago's LGBT community. Dawn Clark Netsch (born Patricia Dawn Clark; September 16, 1926 – March 5, 2013) was an American politician and Northwestern University law professor. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, she served in the Illinois State Senate from 1973 to 1991, and as the Illinois Comptroller from 1991 through 1995. In 1994 Illinois gubernatorial election, 1994, she was the first woman to be nominated by a major political party to run for Governor of Illinois. In addition to being a professor, she co-authored the legal textbook ''State and Local Government in a Federal System.'' Early career She was born Patricia Dawn Clark in Cincinnati, Ohio. The global pandemic of HIV/AIDS (human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) began in 1981, and is an ongoing worldwide public health issue. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2023, HIV/AIDS had killed approximately 40.4 million people, and approximately 39 million people were infected with HIV globally. ''Gay Chicago'' is a defunct LGBT online news organization in Chicago, Illinois, which ceased publishing in print form on September 21, 2011. ''Gay Chicago'' replaced ''Gay Chicago Magazine'' which was founded in 1976 by Ralph Paul Gernhardt and published under the former Gernhardt Publications. It was a weekly LGBT news and entertainment publication. It started as a pocket-sized publication but in 1988 was enlarged to tabloid format. ''Gay Chicago News'' was also published in 1977. Leather Archives & Museum
The Leather Archives & Museum (LA&M) is a community archives, library, and museum located in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Founded by Chuck Renslow and Tony DeBlase in 1991, its mission is making “leather, kink, BDSM, and fetish accessible through research, preservation, education and community engagement." Renslow and DeBlase founded the museum in response to the AIDS crisis, during which the leather and fetish communities' history and belongings were frequently lost or intentionally suppressed and discarded. The LA&M is a leading conservator of queer erotic art. The LGBTQ community in Chicago is one of the United States' most prominent, especially within the Midwest, alongside those of San Francisco and New York City, and holds a significant role in the progression of gay rights in the country. History ''Windy City Times'' was founded in 1985 by Jeff McCourt, Bob Bearden, Drew Badanish and Tracy Baim, who started Sentury Publications to publish the paper.
