Gisselfeld
Gisselfeld, a former monastery, is Denmark's fifth-largest estate. Located between Haslev and Næstved, it extends into several municipalities but the main building is located in Braaby Parish in Faxe Municipality. The estate measures 3,850 hectares, including Hesede, Edelesminde, Brødebæk and Gødstrupgård, of which 2,400 hectares is forest. The three-storeyed Renaissance-style building has stepped gables, loopholes and a projecting tower over the main gate. The grounds include a moat, a well-kept park, lake, waterfall, gardens, greenhouse, and a fountain. A recent addition in its forest is a 45 meter tall hyperboloid tower. History Falk and Goye Gisselfeld is first mentioned at the end of the 14th century when the owner was Bo Falk. Faxe Municipality
Faxe Municipality () is a '' kommune'' in Denmark in the Region Sjælland on the island of Zealand. The municipality covers an area of 406 km2 and has a population of 37,820 (2025). Its mayor as of January 2018 is Ole Vive. He is a member of the agrarian liberal Venstre political party. On 1 January 2007 Faxe municipality, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), came into existence by merging the three former municipalities of Haslev, Fakse, and Rønnede. Haslev
Haslev is a railway town in the southern part of the island of Zealand, Denmark, located about southwest of Copenhagen. It has a population of 12,634 (1 January 2025), and is the largest town and municipal seat of Faxe Municipality in Region Zealand. Haslev has six public schools: two boarding schools, a folk high school, a technical school, a college of education, and a sixth-form college. The estates and castles of Gisselfeld and Bregentved are close to Haslev. History Haslev started out being a small village named Hasle with a few houses and streets surrounding the church. It is mentioned for the first time in 1328 as ''Haslæ'' and in the Bishop of Roskilde's Urbarium 1370-80 as ''Hasle'' and ''Haslæ''. The name was later changed to Haslev to avoid confusion with other similar town names in Denmark. In 1870, the railway line passing Haslev town was inaugurated. Eskil Gøye
Eskil Gøye (also spelled Eskild; died 20 April 1506) was a Danish nobleman, statesman and landholder. He served as Marshal of the Realm from 1489 to 1502. He was the father of Mogens Gøye and Henrik Gøye. Early life Gøye was the son of Mogens Axelsen Gøye (died 1450 or later) and Ide Eskilsdatter Falk. He is mentioned as a knight in 1459. Property He inherited Krenkerup on Lolland and Gisselfeld on Zealand. He also owned Tunbyholm in Skåne. He was '' lensmand'' of Aalholm on Lolland (from c. 1473 to 1494) and Lindholm in Skåne (from 1495). In c. 1493, he acquired Torsjö in Skåne as mortgage. Public offices In 1473, as part of a large delegation, he was sent to England and Scotland. He was a member of the Privy Council (''rigsråd'') from at least 1475 and participated as such in the meetings in Kalmar in 1483 and 1495, and in Lödöse in 1494. Hans Schack
Hans Schack (28 October 1608 – 27 February 1676) was a member of the north German noble family Schack, who after many years in French service, entered the Danish service, made major contributions during the war with Sweden, and loyally supported Frederick III when he overthrew the Danish constitution. He became a Danish field-marshal, commander-in-chief of the Danish army, member of the Board of State, and of the Danish Privy Council, and made a Danish count. Early career As a young man, Schack began his military career by serving in the Danish army during the early years of the Thirty Years' War. He entered Swedish service in 1630, and thence in French in 1635, becoming colonel of cavalry 1642, and later ''maréchal de camp''. Peder Falk
Jan-Peder Falk (20 September 1947 – 19 May 2024) was a Swedish actor, screenwriter and director. He spent most of his career at Stockholm's stadsteater and was also involved in improvisational theatre. On television, he was most known for his role as Carl Gripenhielm in the soap opera ''Nya tider''. Career After studying at Malmö Theatre Academy between 1969 and 1973, Falk worked in children's theater in Norrköping. In 1973, he started working for Stockholm's stadsteater, where his first role was in ''IK Kamraterna'', a play about football. At times, he also worked for and Vetenskapsteatern. In the mid 1980s, Falk along with Helge Skoog brought improvisational theatre to Stockholm's stadsteater. Birk (''biærk'', ''berck'', ''byrck'') was during the Scandinavian Middle Ages the name for a demarcated area, especially a town or a market place, with its own laws and privileges. Denmark In Denmark, the name was used for areas were exempted from the ordinary jurisdictions of the hundreds and the towns. There were royal, ecclesiastical and aristocratic birks with their own law courts and ''birk'' assemblies. After the Protestant Reformation, the ecclesiastical birks passed to the king.
