Gilbert (given Name)
Gilbert is a given name of Norman-French origin, itself from Germanic ''Gisilberht'' or ''Gisalberht''. Original spellings included ''Gislebert'', ''Guilbert'' and ''Gilebert''. The first element, ''Gil-'', comes from Germanic ''gīsil'', meaning "shaft of an arrow" or ''gisal'' "pledge, hostage", while the second element, ''-bert'' comes from Germanic ''-behrt'', short form of ''beraht'', meaning "bright" or "famous". The name spread in France and was introduced to England by the Normans, where it was popular during the Middle Ages. Variant spellings have evolved throughout Europe, including the Iberian/Italian version ''Gilberto'' and, as was the custom across Europe, given a Latin language version ''Gilbertus'', to be used alongside a person's native variant. The diminutives ''Gil'', ''Gillie'' and Bert eventually became popular as a standalone given name or nickname. ''Gilberte'' is the feminized version of the name. ''Gilbert'', with variant spellings, is also used as a surn ...

Gilbert Hill
Gilbert Hill is a monolith column of black basalt rock at Andheri, in Mumbai, India. The rock has a sheer vertical face and was formed when molten lava was squeezed out of the Earth's clefts during the Mesozoic Era about 66 million years ago. During that era, molten lava had spread around most of the Indian states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, covering an area of . The volcanic eruptions were also responsible for the destruction of plant and animal life during that era. According to experts, this rare geological phenomenon was the remnant of a ridge and had clusters of vertical columns in nearby Jogeshwari which were quarried off two decades ago. These vertical columns are similar to the Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming, and the Devils Postpile National Monument in eastern California, USA. Gilbert Hill was declared a National Park in 1952 by the Central Government under the Forest Act. In 2007, after years of lobbying by geologists, the hill was decl ...

Gilbert Cell
In electronics, the Gilbert cell is a type of frequency mixer. It produces output signals proportional to the product of two input signals. Such circuits are widely used for frequency conversion in radio systems. The advantage of this circuit is the output Electric current, current is an accurate multiplication of the (differential) base currents of both inputs. As a mixer, its balanced operation cancels out many Parasitic oscillation, unwanted mixing products, resulting in a "cleaner" output. Gilbert cells can also be used as Variable-gain amplifier, variable-gain amplifiers (VGA). It is a generalized case of an early circuit first used by Howard Jones in 1963, invented independently and greatly augmented by Barrie Gilbert in 1967. It is a specific example of "translinear" design, a current-mode approach to analog circuit design. The specific property of this cell is that the differential output current is a precise Product (mathematics), algebraic product of its two differential ...

He directed that the school should give instruction "for the improvement of mankind by affording such assistance and means of educating the young as will help them to become good citizens." Gilbert named 16 trustees who were to establish the school. Seven trustees were chosen to govern the school, forming The Gilbert School Committee. This committee was to be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the new institution. Gilbert died in June 1890, leaving over half a million dollars fo ...

The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection is a collection of '' objets d'art'' formed by the English-born businessman Sir Arthur Gilbert, who made most of his fortune in the property business in California. After initially becoming interested in silver, he assembled a large collection of decorative arts, which he gave the British nation in 1996. It now has a permanent home in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The V&A describes the objects as: "many in precious materials, and often on a small scale. It is famous for European and British masterpieces including gold and silver, gold boxes, painted enamels and mosaics", these last mostly micromosaics.
