Germán Bringas
Germán Bringas (Mexico City, 1965) is a Mexican free jazz, improvisation and extended techniques multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and performer. Bio Germán Bringas began studying classical piano at the age of 7, which he continued for 7 more years. Bringas has a type of synesthesia, which allows him to relate and perceive colors among with sounds. At the age of 16 he met Carlos Castaneda, who influenced him, especially on the subject and study of perception. At the age of 23, motivated by taking distance from classical jazz and bebop, he began to explore free jazz, improvisation, sound experimentation and extended techniques, influenced by authors such as John Zorn and Fred Frith, at which time he moved to a country house outside Mexico City, the birthplace of his sons Sim Bringas and Iván Bringas, also musicians. Multi-instrumentalist
A multi-instrumentalist is a musician who plays two or more musical instruments, often but not exclusively at a professional level of proficiency. Also known as woodwind doubler, doubling, the practice allows greater ensemble flexibility and more efficient employment of musicians, where a particular instrument may be employed only briefly or sporadically during a performance. Doubling is not uncommon in orchestra (e.g., flute, flutists who double on piccolo) and jazz (saxophone/flute players); double bass players might also perform on electric bass. In music theatre, a pit orchestra's reed players might be required to perform on multiple instruments. Church piano players are often expected to play the church's pipe organ or Hammond organ as well. Tatsuya Yoshida
(born 9 January 1961) is a Japanese musician, drummer and composer who is the only consistent member of the renowned progressive rock duo Ruins, as well as of Koenji Hyakkei. He is also a member of the progressive rock trios Korekyojinn and Daimonji. Outside his own groups, Yoshida is renowned for his tenure as drummer in the indie progressive group YBO2, a band also featuring guitarist KK Null, whom he also joins in the current line-up of Zeni Geva and he has played drums in a late edition of Samla Mammas Manna. Since 2001, he and bass guitarist Takeharu Hayakawa have worked with jazz pianist Satoko Fujii and trumpeter Natsuki Tamura in the Satoko Fujii Quartet. Steel Tongue Drum
A steel tongue drum, tank drum, or hank drum is a round steel slit/tongue drum in the idiophone family originally fashioned from a propane cylinder. Description A steel tongue drum can be made from an empty, often 20-lb (9-kg) propane tank. The tank is flipped over and the base is cut or knocked off. Seven to ten tongues are then cut radially into the bottom of the tank, forming the top of the instrument. A steel tongue drum can also be made from a new unused tank head. The tongues can be tuned by the maker by varying the length of the cuts, or by adding weights, often neodymium magnets, to the tongues. Although steel tongue drums are often tuned to pentatonic scales, they can also be tuned to the diatonic scale, the chromatic scale, or any set of notes the maker chooses.
