Kenneth Jackson Jr. (February 17, 1975 – October 13, 1996), stage name G-Slimm, was a gangsta rapper from New Orleans, Louisiana. His debut album Fours Deuces & Trays was released in 1994 on New Orleans independent rap label Big Boy Records and was produced by Leroy "Precise" Edwards. Fours Deuces & Trays was a huge success and he was on the verge of signing a major deal with Relativity Records in 1995–1997. He was shot and killed in a triple shooting in 1996, before he could sign to Relativity. Big Boy Records
Big Boy Records also known as the Boot Camp Clicc, was an independent record label established in late 1992 by Charles "Big Boy" Temple; Robert "Big Rob" Shaw";and his producer Leroy "Precise" Edwards. For several years in the 1990s, Big Boy Records ruled the hip hop music industry in New Orleans until Master P's No Limit Records and Birdman's Cash Money Records became powerhouse labels. History Big Boy's first signee was pioneering New Orleans rapper Sporty T (Terence Vine). He had previously been a founding member of The Ninja Crew, New Orleans' first rap group to record. In the early 1990s, inspired by hits by Juvenile and Everlasting Hitman's bounce hits, he moved in that direction as well. The label's first single was "Sporty Talkin' Sporty." G-funk, short for gangsta funk, is a sub-genre of gangsta rap that emerged from the West Coast scene in the late 1980s. The genre is heavily influenced by 1970s psychedelic funk (P-funk) sound of artists such as Parliament-Funkadelic. Characteristics G-funk (which uses funk with an artificially altered tempo) incorporates multi-layered and melodic synthesizers, slow hypnotic grooves, a deep bass, heavy use of the snare drum, background female vocals, the extensive sampling of P-Funk tunes, and a high-pitched portamento saw wave synthesizer lead. It is typically set at a tempo of anywhere between 80 to 100 BPM. The lyrical content depended on the artist and could consist of sex, drug use (especially marijuana), love for a city/neighborhood, love for friends and relaxing words. Partners-N-Crime is a rap group from New Orleans, Louisiana, made up of Kango Slimm (born Walter Williams) and Mr. Meana (born Michael Patterson), friends raised in the 17th ward of New Orleans, where they met in high school through a mutual friend. The two earned a local buzz performing at various New Orleans talent shows, and eventually signed to Big Boy Records. A rivalry between Partners-N-Crime and Cash Money Records group U.N.L.V. led to further hostilities between Big Boy and Cash Money before the two groups made peace. The group is considered legendary to locals. The music that they play is in a style that is all their own, and the people of New Orleans love it. Charity Hospital (New Orleans)
Charity Hospital was one of two teaching hospitals which were part of the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans (MCLNO), the other being University Hospital. Three weeks after the events of Hurricane Katrina, then-Governor Kathleen Blanco said that Charity Hospital would not reopen as a functioning hospital. The Louisiana State University System, which owns the building, stated that it had no plans to reopen the hospital in its original location. It chose to incorporate Charity Hospital into the city's new medical center in the lower Mid-City neighborhood. The new hospital completed in August 2015 was named University Medical Center New Orleans.
