Fuxing Island () is a Shanghai Metro station located on Line 12 within Fuxing Island, a part of Yangpu District, Shanghai. The station opened on 29 December 2013. History The station opened for passenger operations on 29 December 2013, as part of an initial fifteen station-long segment of Line 12 between and stations. Description An underground structure with a single island platform, the station is located along Gongqing Road, the main roadway that serves the island. The island, also formerly known as Point Island, is located in the Huangpu River and is separated from the west bank by the Fuxing Island canal. Due to its proximity to the Huangpu River, including the Zhujiamen wharf and Hudong shipyard on the other side of the river in Pudong, it lies on one of the deepest tunnel sections in the Shanghai Metro system. Yangpu District
Yangpu District is one of the 16 districts of Shanghai. It is located in northeastern part of downtown Shanghai, bordering the Huangpu River on the east and south, Hongkou District on the west, and Baoshan District on the north. The southern part of Yangpu District is away from the Bund, a major tourist attraction. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. Line 12 (Shanghai Metro)
Line 12 is an east–west line of the Shanghai Metro network. It runs from in Pudong to in Minhang District. The first section from to Jinhai Road opened on 29 December 2013, and additional stations up to Qufu Road were in operation by 10 May 2014. The remaining stations opened on 19 December 2015. Since the opening of the extension in December 2015, Line 12 has the most interchanges with other metro lines in the Shanghai Metro. The line is colored forest green on system maps. Baidu Maps is a desktop and mobile web mapping service application and technology provided by Baidu, offering satellite imagery, street maps, street view ("Panorama" - :zh:百度全景) and indoor view perspectives, as well as functions such as a route planner for traveling by foot, car, or with public transport. Huangpu River
The Huangpu (), formerly romanized as Whangpoo, is a river flowing north through Shanghai. The Bund and Lujiazui are located along the Huangpu River. The Huangpu is the biggest river in central Shanghai, with the Suzhou Creek being its major tributary. Pudong
Pudong is a district of Shanghai located east of the Huangpu, the river which flows through central Shanghai. The name ''Pudong'' was originally applied to the Huangpu's east bank, directly across from the west bank or Puxi, the historic city center. It now refers to the broader Pudong New Area, a state-level new area which extends all the way to the East China Sea. A flood wall (or floodwall) is a primarily vertical artificial barrier designed to temporarily contain the waters of a river or other waterway which may rise to unusual levels during seasonal or extreme weather events.
