Frida (dog)
Frida (12 April 2009 – 15 November 2022) was a yellow Labrador Retriever who worked as a search and rescue dog for the Mexican Navy (SEMAR). She was deployed to help the rescue efforts in the aftermath of natural disasters. Her trainer and handler was Petty Officer 2nd Class Israel Arauz Salinas (as of October 2018). Equipped with protective goggles, harness and boots, she was trained to bark if she detected someone in need of help. She retired from active duty in 2019, and she died on 15 November, 2022. Career Frida's first deployment was in response to the catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake that struck Haiti on 12 January 2010. On that occasion she detected 12 survivors and a further 12 deceased persons. Following a gas-leak explosion at the Torre Ejecutiva Pemex (Pemex Tower) in Mexico City on 31 January 2013, which killed at least 37 people, Frida located eight bodies. Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (born 30 April 1973) is a Belgian-born international choreographer based out of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dance background Ochoa, who is half-Colombian and half-Belgian, completed her dance training at the Royal Ballet Academy in Antwerp, Belgium. She appeared with various German companies before eventually joining Djazzex, a contemporary dance company, in 1993. In 1997, she joined Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, where she was a soloist for seven years. . Choreographic style Overall, Ochoa's work relates emotional experience through an abstract but intently connected style of choreography, which occasionally relies on virtuosic technique. Her movement is contemporary, however, she occasionally displays classical virtuosity, such as a soaring grand jeté. ''Broken Wings'' is a one-act ballet about Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, choreographed by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, dramaturged by Nancy Meckler and designed by Dieuweke van Reij. Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón (; 6 July 1907 – 13 July 1954) was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Inspired by the country's popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society.
