Freddie Silva
Haupe Liyanage Athukorala Morris Joseph Ranabahu, (born 18 May 1938 – died 29 October 2001: si, ෆෙ‍්‍රඩී සිල්වා), popularly as Freddie Silva, was a Sri Lankan film actor, and playback singer, who appeared from 1973 until 2002. Freddie was known for being one of the most popular Sri Lankan comedians of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. He appeared in over 400 films and Produced 2 films, of which 300 were screened at the celebration of fifty years in Sinhala Cinema. Early life Silva was born on 18 May 1938 in Puvakaramba, Moratuwa, Sri Lanka as the only child of the family. Silva's father was an overseer for the Moratuwa Urban Council and his mother was a member of Salvation Army. Growing up he was fascinated with singing and dancing. Moratuwa
Moratuwa ( si, මොරටුව, ta, மொறட்டுவை) is a large suburb of Colombo, on the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka, near Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. It is situated on the Galle–Colombo (Galle road) main highway, south of the centre of Colombo. Moratuwa is surrounded on three sides by water, except in the north of the city, by the Indian Ocean on the west, the Lake Bolgoda on the east and the Moratu river on the south. ''Cheriyo Captain'' ( si, චෙරියෝ කැප්ටන්) is a 1995 Sri Lankan Sinhala comedy film directed by Roy de Silva and produced by Thilak Atapattu for TK Films. It is the second film of '' Cheriyo film series'', which is sequel to ''Cheriyo Doctor''. It stars Joe Abeywickrama, Sabeetha Perera and Cletus Mendis in lead roles with Sanath Gunathilake and Bandu Samarasinghe. Music for the film is done by Somapala Rathnayake. It is the 839th Sri Lankan film in the Sinhala cinema. Plot Varuni (Sabeetha) is the only daughter of Major (Mervyn). Nihal Nelson ( si, නිහාල් නෙල්සන්; 9 January 1946 – 13 December 2022) was a Sri Lankan vocalist, songwriter and composer. One of the most influential singers in Sri Lanka, and considered 'undefeated on the concert stage', Nelson holds the record for the most albums recorded by a Sri Lankan artist, at a total of 113. Personal life Nelson was born in Moratuwa on 9 January 1946. His father was a businessman and his mother was an English teacher. He started primary education at Innocent Maria Mixed School (now known as Rawathawaththa Roman Catholic College). Gamunu Mahinda Wijesuriya (5 August 1934 – 19 March 2007: as si, ගැමුණු විජේසූරිය), was an actor in Sri Lankan cinema, theatre, radio and television as well as a broadcaster, comedian, singer and radio program producer.
