Fred E. Lewis
Fred Ewing Lewis (February 8, 1865 – June 27, 1949) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Early life and education Fred Ewing Lewis was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on February 8, 1865. He attended the Collegiate and Commercial Institute in New Haven, Connecticut, and Muhlenberg College in Allentown. After studying law, he was admitted to the bar in 1888, and began the practice of his profession in Allentown. Career He served as Mayor of Allentown in 1896 and 1902. He organized and was president of the Merchants' National Bank and was president of the Dime Savings & Trust Co. in Allentown. During its first fifty years of existence, Northampton Town was a small unincorporated settlement, consisting of a few homes, stores and taverns. The 63rd United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1913, to March 4, 1915, during the first two years of Woodrow Wilson's presidency. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Thirteenth Census of the United States in 1910. The Democrats had greatly increased their majority in the House, and won control of the Senate, giving them full control of Congress for the first time since the 53rd Congress in 1893.
