Franken Knights
The Franken Knights are an American football team from Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany. Between 1995 and 1996 the club played in Würzburg for two seasons but returned to Rothenburg again the following year. The club, originally formed as the Rothenburg Knights, has played in Germany's highest football league, the American Football Bundesliga, now the German Football League, on three occasions. In 2011, it won the southern division German Football League 2 for a fifth time and thereby earned the right to compete in the GFL once more in 2012. The 2016 German Football League season was the 38th edition of the top-level American football competition in Germany and seventeenth since the renaming of the ''American Football Bundesliga'' to German Football league. The regular season started on 16 April and finished on 10 September 2016, followed by the play-offs. The season culminated in the German Bowl XXXVIII, held on 8 October 2016 in Berlin. The Kirchdorf Wildcats are an American football team in Kirchdorf am Inn, Germany. The club's greatest success came in 2017 when it won the southern division of the German Football League 2 and earned the right to play-off for promotion to the German Football League which they won against the Saarland Hurricanes. The German Junior Bowl, usually only referred to as ''Junior Bowl'', is the annual national championship game for junior teams in the sport of American football in Germany. It is contested by the two best teams of the GFL Juniors. It is the second-oldest still existing bowl game in Germany, after the German Bowl, dating back to 1982.
