Fort Gansevoort (gallery)
Fort Gansevoort is an American art gallery that takes its name from the former fort in the New York City borough of Manhattan, called Fort Gansevoort. While the fort, which was abandoned in the mid-19th century, was located on the Hudson River at the end of Gansevoort Street, the gallery was created by curator Adam Shopkorn in a building at the other end of the street, in a 19th-century house on the corner of Little West 12th Street, in 2015. The center contains two floors of gallery space as well as dining and retail areas. It holds art exhibitions in the galleries, online exhibitions, and art fairs. Fort
A fortification is a military construction or building designed for the defense of territories in warfare, and is also used to establish rule in a region during peacetime. Iwantja Arts
Indulkana (also known as Iwantja, from Iwantja Creek) is an Aboriginal community in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands in South Australia, comprising one of the six main communities on "The Lands" (the others being Ernabella/ Pukatja, Amata, Fregon/ Kaltjiti, Mimili and Pipalyatjara). At the 2016 Australian census, Indulkana had a population of 256. Geography Indulkana (Iwantja) is situated about west of the Stuart Highway and south of Alice Springs. Meatpacking District, Manhattan
The Meatpacking District is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan that runs from West 14th Street south to Gansevoort Street, and from the Hudson River east to Hudson Street. The Meatpacking Business Improvement District along with signage in the area, extend these borders farther north to West 17th Street, east to Eighth Avenue, and south to Horatio Street. Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara, also known as APY, APY Lands or ''the Lands'', is a large, sparsely-populated local government area (LGA) for Aboriginal people, located in the remote north west of South Australia. Tiger Yaltangki
The tiger (''Panthera tigris'') is the largest living cat species and a member of the genus '' Panthera''. It is most recognisable for its dark vertical stripes on orange fur with a white underside. An apex predator, it primarily preys on ungulates, such as deer and wild boar. It is territorial and generally a solitary but social predator, requiring large contiguous areas of habitat to support its requirements for prey and rearing of its offspring. Kaylene Whiskey
Kaylene Whiskey, is a Pitjantjatjara artist from Indulkana, a remote Aboriginal community, in South Australia. Whiskey is a contemporary Aboriginal artist who is exhibited in many important Australian galleries and won the 2018 Sir John Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales; she was also a finalist for the 2020 Archibald Prize (as a part of a record year for Indigenous Australian artists representation in the Archibald Prize). Whiskey is the granddaughter of Whiskey Tjukangku, whom she used to watch paint and, like her grandfather, she paints with Iwantja Arts. Life and painting Whiskey was born and raised in the small community of Indulkana in the APY Lands to a family very involved in the arts, and she grew up around the art centre. Vincent Namatjira
Vincent Namatjira (born 14 June 1983) is an Aboriginal Australian artist living in Indulkana, in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY lands) in South Australia. He has won many art awards, and after being nominated for the Archibald Prize several times, he became the first Aboriginal person to win it in 2020. He is the great-grandson of the Arrente watercolour artist Albert Namatjira. Early life Namatjira was born on 14 June 1983 in Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, and spent his early years in Hermannsburg. He is the great-grandson of renowned watercolour artist Albert Namatjira, and identifies as a Western Aranda man. After his mother, Jillian, died in 1991, Vincent and his sister were removed by the state and sent to foster homes in Perth, Western Australia, thousands of kilometres away.
