Florida State Road 76
State Road 76 (SR 76), also known and signed as Kanner Highway, is a northeast-southwest (signed east–west) state highway connecting Port Mayaca on the shore of Lake Okeechobee at the intersection with US 98-441 ( SR 700-SR 15) with Stuart on the shore of the St. Lucie River near the Atlantic Ocean and the Treasure Coast at an intersection with US 1 ( SR 5). It parallels the nearby St. Lucie Canal, a navigable waterway connecting the lake and the ocean. Route description West of Florida's Turnpike (SR 91) and Interstate 95 ( SR 9), SR 76 crosses the woodland and wetlands typifying Florida northeast of Lake Okeechobee. With the exception of Indiantown on the opposite (northern) side of St. Lucie Canal near the intersection of SR 76 and SR 710, very little human habitation exists along the southwestern of SR 76. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is a decentralized agency charged with the establishment, maintenance, and regulation of public transportation in the state of Florida. The department was formed in 1969. It absorbed the powers of the State Road Department (SRD). The current Secretary of Transportation is Jared W. Perdue. History The State Road Department, the predecessor of today's Department of Transportation, was authorized in 1915 by the Florida Legislature. For the first two years of its existence, the department acted as an advisory body to the 52 counties in the state, helping to assemble maps and other information on roads. Indian River State College
Indian River State College (IRSC) is a public college with a main campus in Fort Pierce, Florida. It is part of the Florida College System and serves the counties of Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie on the Treasure Coast region of Florida. History The college was established in 1959 as Indian River Junior College and located in a former public school building in Fort Pierce. IRJC moved to its current main campus on Virginia Avenue in 1963 after the city of Fort Pierce donated the site to the institution. In 1970, the Board of Trustees decided a name more fitting of the College's service to the community was needed, and it was renamed Indian River Community College. Florida State Road 15
State Road 15 (SR 15) is part of the Florida State Road System. This route is part of a multi two-state route 15 that begins at Florida and ends at Georgia at the North Carolina state line. Route description SR 15 runs from SR 80/ SR 880 at Belle Glade north along the east shore of Lake Okeechobee to Okeechobee. Then it runs north to SR 500 ( US 192) at Holopaw, and northwest along SR 500 to Ashton (east of St. Cloud), where it ends. County Road 15 in Osceola County and Orange County connects to the beginning of the next section, at SR 528 (the Bee Line Expressway) east of Orlando International Airport. Florida State Road 700
State Road 700 (SR 700) is the mostly unsigned Florida Department of Transportation state road designation of U.S. Route 98 (US 98) between Chassahowitzka (where US 98 continues northward as unsigned SR 55) and Twentymile Bend (where US 98 continues eastward as signed SR 80). The only segments of State Road 700 that are signed are between SR 50A and US 41 in Brooksville, and from Okeechobee south, through Canal Point, to SR 80. From the northernmost signed point, it's an unsigned concurrency with SR 45(US 41), then with SR 50, before rejoining US 98 at the west end of the US 98/SR 50 concurrency. The section between Canal Point to SR 80 is signed only as State Road 700 since the relocating of US 98 to run concurrent with US 441 in Palm Beach County. Conners Highway
U.S. Route 98 (US 98) is a major east-west thoroughfare through the U.S. state of Florida. Spanning , it connects Pensacola and the Alabama/Florida state line to the west with Palm Beach and the Atlantic coast in the east. It is the longest US road in Florida, as well as the longest US road in any state other than California (US 101) and Texas. It was established in 1933 as a route between Pensacola and Apalachicola, and has since been extended eastward across the Florida Peninsula and westward into Mississippi.
