Florida Mountains
The Florida Mountains are a small long, mountain range in New Mexico. The mountains lie in southern Luna County about southeast of Deming, and north of the state of Chihuahua, Mexico; the range lies in the north of the Chihuahuan Desert region, and extreme southwestern New Mexico. The Florida Mountains are east and adjacent to New Mexico State Road 11, the north–south route to Chihuahua; it becomes Highway 23 in Chihuahua and connects to Mexican Federal Highway 2, the major east–west route of the north Chihuahuan Desert adjacent the U.S.-Mexico border. Chihuahuan Desert
The Chihuahuan Desert ( es, Desierto de Chihuahua, ) is a desert ecoregion designation covering parts of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. It occupies much of far West Texas, the middle to lower Rio Grande Valley and the lower Pecos Valley in New Mexico, and a portion of southeastern Arizona, as well as the central and northern portions of the Mexican Plateau. It is bordered on the west by the Sonoran Desert, the Colorado Plateau, and the extensive Sierra Madre Occidental range, along with northwestern lowlands of the Sierra Madre Oriental range. Battle Of The Florida Mountains
The Battle of the Florida Mountains was an action of the Apache Wars. Forces involved were Chiricahua Apache warriors and mounted Confederate States militia. The battle occurred in a pass of the Florida Mountains within Confederate Arizona, now southwestern New Mexico. The engagement occurred sometime around the middle of August 1861. Background Mangas Coloradas, chief of the Gila River Apaches, fought Confederate soldiers throughout Arizona's rebellious period. The Arizona Guards, a force of Confederate militia recruited in Traditional Arizona, were in action almost immediately after their induction into service on August 1, 1861. Capra Aegagrus Aegagrus
The bezoar ibex (''Capra aegagrus aegagrus'') is a wild goat subspecies that is native to the montane forested areas in the Caucasus and the Zagros Mountains. Characteristics The bezoar ibex, which weighs around 60kg (130lb) is known particularly for the size of its horns; it possess the world's longest horns in relation to body weight, and can exceed high, those in the south and east desert ranges are typically smaller by 30 percent. Rockhound State Park
Rockhound State Park is a state park of New Mexico, United States, located southeast of Deming. It is named for the abundance of minerals in the area, and visitors can search for quartz crystals, geodes, jasper, perlite, and many other minerals. When the park opened in 1966, it was the first park in the United States to allow collection of rocks and minerals for personal use. The park consists of two units. The main park is located in the Little Florida Mountains and includes camping areas. The Spring Canyon Recreation Area is located to the southwest in the northern Florida Mountains and is open only for day use. State Road 11 (NM 11) is a north–south road that travels from the United States–Mexico border crossing in Columbus to Deming.
