Flores Daniel Gang
Flores Daniel Gang, was an outlaw gang also known as ''"las Manillas"'' (the Handcuffs), throughout Southern California during 1856-1857. Californio's Juan Flores and Pancho Daniel. Contemporary newspaper accounts of ''las Manillas'' all reported that the leader of las Manillas was originally Pancho Daniel, but that Juan Flores assumed the leadership role after Daniel was injured in the Barton ambush. According to the account of Harris Newmark, Flores had been sent to prison for horse-stealing and was just another member of the gang. John Boessenecker
John Boessenecker ( John Edward Boessenecker; born 27 February 1953) is an American historian and author, and a lawyer specializing in trust and estate litigation. He is based in San Francisco, California. Fascinated by frontier history, he published his first article at the age of fifteen. After earning a history degree in college, he worked as a police officer for eight years before going to law school. He has published numerous articles about the West. Since 1988 he has also published eleven books about the frontier West and the lawmen, vigilantes and outlaws of the period. His 2016 biography of Texas Ranger Frank Hamer made the ''New York Times'' bestseller list. Life Boessenecker was born in San Francisco in 1953 and grew up in Mill Valley, California. Flores Peak
Flores Peak is a mountain peak, overlooking the confluence Harding Canyon and Modjeska Canyon, within the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary in Orange County, California. It rises to an elevation of . It is named for Juan Flores of the Flores Daniel Gang. History Juan Flores and the gang had taken refuge on the peak after killing Los Angeles County Sheriff James R. Barton and three of his posse. Flores made a daring escape from encirclement by a Los Angeles posse led by General Andrés Pico. As part of the posse led by Tomas Avila Sanchez and Bethel Coopwood stormed up the mountain under fire, Flores rode his horse down the steep slope of the peak along with a two others of the gang, while three of the gang were captured there. The Santa Ana Mountains are a short peninsular mountain range along the coast of Southern California in the United States. They extend for approximately southeast of the Los Angeles Basin largely along the border between Orange and Riverside counties. Bethel Coopwood (1827–1907) was born in Alabama, and moved to Texas and was a soldier in the Mexican–American War and an officer in the Confederate Army in the American Civil War. He was a lawyer, judge, and later a historian.
