Festivals In Costa Rica
This is a list of festivals celebrated in Costa Rica: This list includes festivals of diverse types, among them regional festivals, trade fairs, commerce festivals, fairs, food festivals, arts festivals, religious festivals, folk festivals, and recurring festivals on holidays. January Fiestas de Palmares This is celebrated in the first two weeks of January in Palmares de Alajuela. Concerts with music, rodeos and firework displays are held. There is also a fairground and sporting competition. Fiesta Patronal de Santo Cristo This is a religious fiesta held in mid January in Santa Cruz, Costa Rica. Rodeos, folk dancing and street festivities are held for two days to honor Santo Cristo de Esquipulas. A parade of ox-carts is also part of the tradition, as is a large feast. Festival de las Kobe This is held in late January at Playas Esterillos, near Jacó, Costa Rica, Jacó. Mule races are held on the beach, with bullfights, music and a crafts fair. Feria De La Marcarada, Barva De Heredia
In the liturgy of the Catholic Church, a feria is a day of the week other than Sunday. In more recent official liturgical texts in English, the term ''weekday'' is used instead of ''feria''. If the Calendar of saints, feast day of a saint falls on such a day, the liturgy celebrated may be that of the saint, not that of the ''feria'' (the weekday liturgy). Accordingly, in actual liturgical practice a feria or ferial day is "a weekday on which no special ecclesiastical feast is to be celebrated". Etymology The ''Harvard Dictionary of Music'' explains the etymology ''feria'' as "the reverse of the original meaning of Latin, L. ''feria'', i.e., festival day. The reversal came about by extending the use of the word from Sunday to the other days, Sunday being named ''feria prima'', Monday ''feria secunda'', Tuesday ''feria tertia'', etc." Since in ecclesiastical Latin the names of Sunday and Saturday do not contain the word ''feria'' and are called respectively ''dominica'' and '' ...
