Fernando Lara
Fernando Luiz Lara is a Brazilian-born architect, academic, and author. Biography Born in Brazil, Lara studied at Federal University of Minas Gerais and graduated with Bachelor of Architecture in 1993. He continued his education at Federal University of Minas Gerais and completed Master of Science in 1996. He completed his PhD from the University of Michigan in 2001. In 2008, his book, ''The Rise of Popular Modernist Architecture in Brazil'', was published. The book was reviewed by Adrian Forty in the ''Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians''. In 2015, he published, ''Modern Architecture in Latin America'', the first survey to address the region. The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture (UTSOA) is a college within The University of Texas at Austin, with its major facilities located on the main university campus in Austin, Texas. UTSOA's dean is Michelle Addington. In 2016, the school's former dean, Frederick "Fritz" Steiner, stepped down citing Texas Government Code Section 411.2031, also known as "Campus Carry," which entitles licensed individuals to carry concealed handguns onto the campus of an institution of higher education. The Kubitschek Residence Museum () is a museum house located on the shore of Lake Pampulha in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The building served as the weekend residence of Juscelino Kubitschek, prefect of Belo Horizonte at the time. History Design The house was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and built between 1940 and 1943. With a roof in the form of a butterfly with inclined planes, the Kubitschek Residence, which occupies 680 m2 of a plot measuring 2,800 m2, is a characteristic example of Brazilian modernist architecture.
