The National Library of the Faroe Islands ( fo, Føroya Landsbókasavn) is the national library for the Faroe Islands, a self-governing country within the Kingdom of Denmark. It is both a public and a research library. The library houses the largest collection of works written in Faroese, works written by Faroese in other languages or translated by them, and works written about the Faroe Islands. History The library began in 1828, when the Danish '' Amtmaður'' (governor) Christian Ludvig Tillisch (in office 1825–30) and his ''Amtsrevisor'' Jens Davidsen began assembling books for a ''Færø Amts Bibliotek'' (Danish, 'Faroe County Library'). They were assisted by the Danish scholar Carl Christian Rafn and by private citizens, and on 5 November 1828 secured an annual grant of funds from the King. In 1831, the collection included 2,860 volumes. The library acquired its own building in 1830, and Jens Davidsen served as librarian until his death in 1878. Listasavn Føroya

Listasavn Føroya (National Gallery of the Faroe Islands) is an art museum in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands for mostly permanent exhibits of Faroese arts. Established in 1989, it consists of a gallery called ''Listaskáli'' (since 1970) and another for historic arts (since 1993) with an area of 1,600 m2. The museum is located at the northern end of the Park of Tórshavn nearby the Nordic House in the Faroe Islands. Architect of the building was J.P. Gregoriussen. The building hosts the Faroe Islands Artist's Association ''Listafelag Føroya''. Klaksvík
Klaksvík is the second largest town of the Faroe Islands behind Tórshavn. The town is located on Borðoy, which is one of the northernmost islands (the Norðoyar). It is the administrative centre of Klaksvík municipality. History The first settlement at Klaksvík dates back to Viking times, but it was not until the 20th century that the district merged to form a large, modern Faroese town that became a cultural and commercial centre for the Northern Isles and the Faroe Islands as a whole. Klaksvík is located between two inlets lying back to back. It has an important harbour with fishing industry and a modern fishing fleet. Originally, four farms were located where Klaksvík is now. In time, they grew into four villages: Vágur, Myrkjanoyri, Gerðar and Uppsalir; which finally merged to form the town of Klaksvík in 1938. Kaldbak Marine Biological Laboratory
Kaldbak ( da, Kalbak) is a village in the Faroe Islands, on Streymoy's east coast and part of Tórshavn Municipality. The village lies on the northern side of the fjord Kaldbaksfjørður. History Excavations show that Kaldbak was already inhabited by the 11th century. The parish church in Kaldbak was built in 1835. The village was only connected to the Streymoy road system in 1980.
