Frank Mycroft
Frank Mycroft (30 June 1873 – 26 September 1900) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire County Cricket Club between 1894 and 1895. Mycroft was born in Shirland Toadhole Furnace, Derbyshire, the son of Matthew Mycroft, a farmer of , and his wife Eliza. Mycroft started playing for Derbyshire in the 1893 season before they were included in the County Championship. He was a wicket-keeper for the club and played in two first-class matches both against Yorkshire in the 1894 and 1895 seasons, standing in for the regular wicket-keeper William Storer. Mycroft was a left-handed batsman who was last man in his matches. Shirland
Shirland is a former pit village in Derbyshire, England. Together with the neighbouring villages of Higham, Derbyshire, Higham, Stretton, Derbyshire, Stretton and Stonebroom, it forms part of the Civil parishes in England, civil parish of Shirland and Higham, which had a population of 4,802 at the 2011 Census. Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Derbyshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Derbyshire. Its limited overs team is called the Derbyshire Falcons in reference to the famous peregrine falcon which nests on the Derby Cathedral (it was previously called the Derbyshire Scorpions until 2005 and the Phantoms until 2010). First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1893 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for twenty two years. Derbyshire's matches were not considered to be first class in this season. The club had lost first class status after 1887 and did not regain it until the following year 1894. However many of the players competed for the club earlier or subsequently at first-class level. 1893 season Derbyshire played sixteen games and apart from two against Cheshire and one against MCC, these were all against future clubs in the County Championship or the touring Australians. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1895 was the first season in which the English county cricket club Derbyshire played in the County Championship which had been established in 1890. The club settled their place by coming fifth with five championship wins. It was the club's 25th season although the matches in the period between 1888 and 1893 were not given first-class status. William Storer
William Storer (25 January 1867 – 28 February 1912) was an English footballer and a cricketer who played six Test matches from 1897 to 1899, played first-class cricket for Derbyshire from 1887 to 1905 and played football for Derby County. He scored nearly 13,000 runs for Derbyshire and achieved over 430 dismissals from behind the stumps. Storer was born at Ripley, Derbyshire, the son of John Storer, an engine smith, and his wife Elizabeth. In 1881 the family were living at Butterley Hill and he was a turner's apprentice. Storer was a specialist wicket keeper who was reputed to stand up to the wicket against fast bowlers. He was also a highly skilled batsman at a time when wicket-keeper batsmen were rare and twice averaged over fifty in a season.
