Frank McKinnon
Frank Lorne McKinnon, (June 16, 1934 – May 31, 2015) was a Canadian sports administrator. He was a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation Congress, chairman of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA), and vice-president of the Canadian Olympic Association for one term. McKinnon was named a Member of the Order of Canada in June 2014 in recognition of his extensive volunteer work and contributions to amateur sport in Canada. Career A teacher by trade, McKinnon received his post-secordary education at Brandon University, where he also starred on the school's hockey team. He became the principal of the high school in Carman, Manitoba in 1964 and later helped create the Manitoba High School Athletics Association, the governing body for high school athletics in the province. Gord Renwick
Gordon Ralph Renwick (February 13, 1935January 6, 2021) was a Canadian ice hockey administrator, who served as president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA), vice-president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and was the team president of the Cambridge Hornets, Galt Hornets. Renwick led the Hornets to Allan Cup championships for senior ice hockey in 1969 and 1971. His travels to the Ahearne Cup in Europe led to him opening the door for European teams playing tournaments in North America, and his role as a Head of mission, Chef de Mission for these events. Renwick was the founding chairman of the Telus Cup, Wrigley Cup hockey tournament for Minor ice hockey, midget age group in 1974, and then became vice-president of the CAHA in 1975. David Lloyd Johnston (born June 28, 1941) is a Canadian academic, author, and statesman who served as the 28th governor general of Canada from 2010 to 2017. Johnston was the special rapporteur appointed to investigate reports of Chinese government interference in the 2019 and 2021 Canadian federal elections, foreign interference in recent Canadian federal elections until his resignation on June 9, 2023. Johnston was born and raised in Ontario, studying there before enrolling at Harvard University and later University of Cambridge, Cambridge and Queen's University at Kingston, Queen's universities. The Frank McKinnon Scholarship is bursary awarded by the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in honour of former Commissioner Frank McKinnon. It provides an opportunity for players to apply for a scholarship based on their academic and hockey accomplishments. Frank McKinnon, , (June 16, 1934–May 31, 2015) served 18 years as a member (five years as President) of the Hockey Manitoba, Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association (now Hockey Manitoba) and five year as a member (three years as Chairman) of the Hockey Canada, Canadian Amateur Hockey Association. Frank McKinnon Memorial Trophy
The Frank McKinnon Memorial Trophy is an annual award given by the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability during the regular season. The trophy is named after the late former MJHL commissioner and Hockey Canada executive. History The first trophy awarded by the MJHL for sportsmanship was the Cadet Trophy. It was succeeded by the Lorne Lyndon Memorial Trophy in 1966, named in honour of one of Canada's most renowned officials who officiated from 1933 to 1953, including six Allan Cup finals, three Memorial Cup finals, and the 1951 Alexander Cup. The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) is an association of Canadian junior ice hockey#Junior A, junior A ice hockey leagues and teams and was formed in November 1993, emerging from the Canada West Association of Junior 'A' Hockey. The champion of the Canadian Junior Hockey League wins the Centennial Cup. The CJHL spans the majority of Canada, from the Canadian Prairies, Prairies to the Atlantic Coast. The only regional organizations of Hockey Canada to currently not have member teams or a league are BC Hockey, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador (Hockey NL), and Hockey North. Hockey Canada (which merged with the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association in 1994) is the national governing body of ice hockey and ice sledge hockey in Canada. It is a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation and controls the majority of organized ice hockey in Canada.
