Frank Costin
Francis Albert Costin (8 June 1920 – 5 February 1995) was a British automotive engineer who advanced monocoque chassis design and was instrumental in adapting aircraft aerodynamic knowledge for automobile use. Career Costin was an engineer with the de Havilland, de Havilland Aircraft Company when, in 1954, his brother Mike Costin, Mike, a former de Havilland engineer then working for Lotus Cars, Lotus Engineering Ltd., asked him to design an aerodynamic body for a new racing car. Intrigued by the idea of applying aerodynamics to racing cars, Costin designed the body for the Lotus Mark VIII. Unlike his brother, Costin was never a Lotus employee; his work there was either as a paid consultant or as a volunteer. Speedex
Speedex Castings and Accessories Ltd. was a company manufacturing sports car bodies between 1958 and 1962 in Luton, Bedfordshire. It was set up by Jem Marsh who left Firestone Tyres in 1958 to manage the Luton-based ''Sporting Motorists Agency'' which sold Dante tuning parts for Austin 7-based cars. He left in April 1958 to set up a similar company, SPEEDEX Castings and Accessories Ltd, in a former hat factory at 33 Jubilee Street. The company moved on to larger premises in Windsor Street and produced the aluminium Speedex 750 body, followed by the glassfibre Silverstone and Sirocco GT Coupe. Keith Duckworth
David Keith Duckworth (10 August 1933 – 18 December 2005) was an English mechanical engineer. He is most famous for designing the Cosworth DFV (Double Four Valve) engine, an engine that revolutionised the sport of Formula One. Early life and education Duckworth was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, and was educated at Giggleswick School. Duckworth served his two years of national service with the Royal Air Force, during which time he briefly trained to become a pilot but was grounded for dangerous and incompetent flying and was reclassified as a navigator. Duckworth claimed that allergy to medication he was receiving caused his flying problem - in civilian life he became a keen light aircraft and helicopter pilot. The Costin Sports Roadster is a lightweight mid-engined sports car that was intended for initial launch in the mid-1990s. A prototype test bed chassis was finished in 1991 at Costin Ltd in Wales. The TMC Costin is a Clubman-style sports car built from 1983 to 1987 in Castlebridge, County Wexford, Ireland. Fewer than forty were produced. It was an unusual design of an ungainly, cobbled together appearance, mixing the front design of a Lotus Seven with a slab-sided, shed-like structure at the rear.
