The first season of the television series ''Angel'', the spin-off of ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'', premiered on October 5, 1999, on The WB and concluded its 22-episode season on May 23, 2000. Sunnydale is the fictional setting for the American television drama ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' (1997–2003).
