Finnish Handball League
The Finnish SM-liiga is the name of the professional handball league of Finland. Competition format The season begins with a regular season between the ten teams. The first six teams qualifies for the play-offs, the teams classified four to eight play another round-robin, while the last two plays a relegation round. 2024/25 season participants The following 7 clubs compete in the SM-liiga during the 2024–25 season. Handball In Finland
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. The Nederlandse Handbal Eredivisie is the top Netherlands, Dutch professional Team handball, handball league. The winners of the Eredivisie are recognised as the Dutch handball champions. Competition format In the first phase of the season, the top 6 teams of the previous season participate in the BeNe League, BENE-League competition. They are joined by the top 6 teams from Belgium. At the same time, the remaining 12 teams, participate in a national competition. Grankulla IFK, or GrIFK as the name is commonly abbreviated, is a Finnish sports club from the city of Kauniainen.
